In the last 48 hours, the southern city of Karachi, the largest in southern Pakistan, has endured a violent unrest in many parts of the metropolis. The politically-motivated killings have sparked tensions in the region. On Sunday, six people, most of them political workers, were shot dead. Two were killed and four injured in a shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire at two individuals in Kharadar area, killing them. In Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, near Mosmiyat, a Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) worker was killed after being shot. The sixth victim was a police officer who was shot dead in Gulzar-e-Hijri area. In Aram Bagh area, a group of unknown gunmen on a bike threw a grenade at a local office of the MQM, the third largest political party in Pakistan. The device did not explode and police defused it. MQM blamed the Peoples Aman Committee for targeting its workers, alleging that the Pakistan People's Party is supporting the group. MQM Coordination Committee's Deputy Convenor Farooq Sattar announced that the party has submitted evidences of the Aman Committee's involvement in the incidents to President Asif Ali Zardari. Police forces have been unable to stop the attacks as the assailants easily target victims and flee from the scene before law enforcement agents arrive. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-03-21
