Surfing In Thailand - Possible?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know, is there somewhere in Thailand that has waves big enough to surf or bodyboard? I've been to Patong during November. Now living in Isaan and craving waves... Thanks for any help...

Chiang Mai is good at the moment :o

someone said in a previous thread that there are rideable waves on the Andaman coast north of Phuket but are usually small...need a big swell to generate cookin' conditions.. Search the forum or do a google on surfing - andaman...

I've never seen any rideable waves in Thailand waters - either coast. :o

Seriously mate, if you want waves now is the time. If your a keen surfer like me, you wont find the best surf in the world, but you should get 2-4 foot ok beach breaks with almost nobody to have to share it with. A rarity and makes up for the poorer conditions.

Make your way to Phuket and head south of Patong, to the south end of "Kata" beach. You can hire a board there and on the right tide you'll get a wave. You might also find some good breaks at "Karon" beach too.

The best surf is between August and November. I've had some great surfs at Kata beach with no crowds. When the tide goes out, you get some suck barrells on the sand banks.

Enjoy dude, nice to know theres a fellow surfer here in LOS.

Vernthai - check the Phuket forum, there are a few surf threads in there. :o
