A freind of mine is interested in buying a second hand car here, that he only came accross yesterday while we were out looking for a new car for myself.

He was working but that WP has now expired, he has a "non-imm" visa for a year but has to leave every 90 days.

The next visa he does will be a retirement visa.

In his current status, can he buy a car, just on the evidence of a letter from the Bristish Consulate saying he rents a residence here?

He has a bank account.

The main Honda dealer told him YES-no problem, but I am sceptical.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks

You need passport, certificate of residence and (O visa or work permit or retirement vise) but this is for a new car not sure about 2nd hand, I would assume it will be the same requirements..

I amnot really sure of the rules but have bought 2 motorcycles here and a truck. Can just relate my experiences. First motorcycle was new, no problems at all just showed passport and gave them my address no proof needed., done in 1'/2 hour got plate and green book a week later. Truck was used and from out of province, the dealer went with me to motor vehicle registration. got registration changed to my province with new plates I drove away within and hour with new plates and blue book. Last was new motorcycle. Ordered it when it came I paid then the problems started, they said I needed certicicate of address, local police wouldnot give it to me.I told them I never neede it before but they were in control and said I needed it. Had to go to immigration to get it but got greenbook a month later.

I would think if dealer states he can get it done for you he probably can

.. Oh I forfot I had letter from embassy also for truck same as what they are asking for.

My mate's visa is a non-imm "B".

Does anyone know if that makes any difference at all as opposed to an "O"

Thanks

The embassy could probably answwer that when he applies for letter. It is my impression a foreigner can buy a vehicle on a tourist visa. We donot have to be resident.

I was of the understanding the requirement in a non immigrant visa (can be any) and either a work permit or residency (proof of address) letter from immigration.

I bought and registered my car on a TV in 07/2010. No problem at all. Letter of address from immigration was necessary.

The last post would mean, that there is a good possibility to get a motobike or/and car in my name registerd.

I rent a house and land since more than 10 years with a contract which is registered also in the Provincial landoffice/land-ownerpapers and have children with Thai.

I would be since 2009/change of law, eligiable to a Non Immigrant O but never made one, as Tourist Visas had been free of charge.

So I have in the moment a Tourist Visa with a 2 month extension granted on the reason, that I have children in my name in TH.

Until now, the vehicles have been registered to the Mias and that brought dilemmas.

1. They used and use it for -cash for car- and who pays the loan? ;-(

2. I could even ride to and inside Cambodia, Laos ect.

If you have some more information, thank you.

In my name the motobike, that would
