Windows Oem - What Hardware Is It Tied To?

Featured Replies

I want to buy a OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, but it isn't in the stores yet, so I've installed Windows 7 (OEM) on a hard drive for the time being. I haven't activated yet, because the installer says 'this will tie Windows to your computer', and I'm not sure how stringent it is about that.

If I activate Windows on the hard drive, will I be able to reinstall it on the SSD later on?

When I asked this question earlier this month the overwhelming consensus was that you could install a new HDD without any issues. I decided not to go for an SSD as I really don't need the performance boost.

A motherboard change might require a call-in with an explanation in order to get a re-activation.

Yeah HDD swap should create no issues, get your pc set-up and running how you want and then when the OCZ becomes available clone your current HDD onto it.

You can also rearm Windows 7 for up to 4 months without activating it.
