Tax On Shipped Parts

Featured Replies

I'm buying some performance parts before travel before traveling overseas where I can either bring them back in check in luggage, or have them shipped. I am getting a set of camshafts from one place and injectors, fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator from another place. If customs isn't taxing these items too heavily I'd rather have them shipped as there will be other more expensive parts already being brought in via checked luggage(ecu etc.)

If tax is only 10% or so, I'd rather ship, but if they're going to try to get me for 30% or more, hand carry seems like the way to go.

Any recent stories out there from anyone on shipping items or hand carrying?

Hand carrying can be a problem if they catch you. Not that they ever seem to check. What type of car are the parts for, not available here ?

The problem with buying parts here is not only are they a lot more expensive, most are all Chinese copies that crap out which can cause bigger problems.

Most engine parts get 30% slapped on it plus handling plus this and that. I think its tax group 74.06 parts for reciprocating or rotary engines with spark plug ignition.

sometimes you luck out, had a supercahrger coming in described as "airpump" and then only 10%.

I can tell you now that most arent chinese copys but they are around. Get burnt a couple times by the custom man and those parts in Thailand aint such a bad prices after all. If you tell me what type of car it is I may be able to direct you to someone that deals in that type.
