90 Day Reporting

I have noticed that I lose days if I report early - but I understood the Regs say it counts from when my current 90 days expires? they seem to have the stamp set at 90 days from that particualt day and don't alter it - anyone else had that? it's bad enough reporting but to lose 10 days is even worse!

What happens if you report within the 7 days grace period after your 90-day date? I would imagine if you lose days by reporting early, you'll also gain days by reporting late.

Not sure how you would lose 10 days if the grace period is 7.

It;s all very immaterial; you don't 'lose' days of your actual stay in country. You just have to report every 90 days. So whichever day you report on, you will have to report again 90 days later. So your convenience as to the day you pick to report matters more than for some reason wanting to go a full 90 days between reports; I can't see any gain or loss from that.

Also you don't have to go yourself to report; you could send staff to go report for you. They can do it on the way when they buy groceries or whatever; so: pretty immaterial.

To avoid the crowd just avoid Mondays ,Fridays and the days, before and after, public holidays. As other posters have said you have a 7 day window. Not abig chore. One day when I'm long long you will be able to report on line ....maybe :)

It wasn't as easy and painless as you describe for me or my housekeeper...First of all, she needed to get my signature on a thai document giving her basic Power of Attorney. Now it is easier, but not without hassles, ie, the last time she went for me, the guy dealing with her didn't believe her and kept my passport. I had to go in person and have them take a photograph of me as ...proof??

And not to mention that she has to deal with all the same crap as I used to... :D

They always have stamped mine and others I have seen 90 days from the day of reporting.

I inquired about it and asked them to adjust, they said they undertood and agreed, but then stamped it 90 days from that date anyhow. :whistling:

So now I go on that date or within a few days after, during the 7 day grace period.

Yes it could be a slight risk if asked for the passport and report and don't have it current.

By mail in is iffy for the date you will get. Usually 90 days from when they look at it and stamp it.

Not to mention Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. It is almost alwaays crowded these days. :(

So much for expats leaving Chiang Mai. The Farang Explosion is continuing unabatedly. If it continues at this rate then in not too many generations the Farangs will outnumber the Thais. (Pattaya well on track for that as well)

I did mine about 1:30 this afternoon. It took a little less than 10 minutes. I was 2 days late and got 90 days from today.

you miss the point Dude - I did it early and lost 10 days because they set the date from the day I reported not the date my 90 day reporting ran out

but... the point is.... they are supposed to do it from end of 90 period not from when you 'report' the whole thing is stupid anyway

that's cool cool.gif but... my thread was more about the 'why's (if there are any here) about me losing days - and if it was prevalent

The TM47 says this:

"NOTICE: ALIEN MUST NOTIFY THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE EVERY 90 DAYS"

So, if you report a few days before the actual 90 days your next notification is in 90 days. Been standard procedure for years.

Think of the number of mistakes that would happen if they had to change the date stamp for every reportee in a day. And of course, the amount of wasted time as they try and figure out 90 days for every applicant and change the stamp. :D

Yea I 'get it' but I think many of the web sites advise that it's from the 90 days expiry - not from reporting... anyhow TIT

I would not say you missed the point. But I sure appreciate it when you say you just did it today two days late did not get penalized and it is good for 90 days from today.Means more to me when some one say's they did it rather than telling me I can do it.Thanks for the info.

I was 7 days late renewing my retirement visa and had to pay a fine. He then stamped it one year from the original date. I questioned him and he said that was the way they did it. When I went into the back room the fellow took about ten minutes to look it over called in the first fellow talked to him and looked it over some more. When he was done he motioned me to come over handed to me and pointed out where he had changed the date to one year from that day. I never said a word just watched.":)">

well that is a point - queues can be long enough as it is - I only mention it as they have actually done that for me in the past (alter the date stamp) anyway no more early reporting!

any news on that rumour we can do it over the net? think of the staff hours saved their end - it's got to make sense to scrap the silly idea or have it done on the net

I was down speaking with the head of immigration on another matter last week and I asked him about the rumour. He said ...it is only a rumour and gave his reasons why "on line 90 day reporting" would not be possible in his view.

Maybe because 90 day reporting can be done easily by post and they really want to have a look at anyone actually turning up in person to do it...

Interesting guess, but I'd quite like to hear the reasons that the chief of immigration gave to Raindancer.

It doesn't make sense, anyone can send it in for you (though they are not supposed to), so why can't anyone take it in for you?

Uptheos....It was a private conversation, which I respect and will not divulge his thoughts for such a forum as this...I only wished to point out that it is a rumour as far as the man in charge is concerned and thus dispel the usual Farang rumour that seems to emanate from forums such as this with no substantial proof of the rumour. Thus it might put the readers at peace to not rely too much hope from TV rumours.

Anyone can take it in for you!!!! But that is not the topic in question...The topic is about the reasons why it is unlikely that you will be unable to renew by online for 90 day reporting.

After reading posts here I got to thinking that maybe I should check my passport. It turned out I was 9 days late.

I went in today at 1:00 and was out at 1:45. I was 2,000 Baht poorer though.:( Not sure how they arrived at that figure but I did not feel like arguing with them.

My next report date is going to be on July 28 I have already noted it an my calendar.B)
