Visa For Switzerland

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago my (Thai) wife and 3 of her (Thai) friends applied for a visitors visa to the UK and they received the visas a week after applying. They will first arrive in Switzerland for a few days then on to Milan and Paris then take the train on to London and return to Bangkok by air. My questions concern the Swiss visa. The application seems almost simple compared to the UK application. On the Swiss application there is no question about finances, how the trip is being paid for, employment etc. My wife doesn't work so should I include my income? Should she bring along copies of the house/land deeds? Would appreciate replies from anyone who has recently applyed for a Swiss visa. Their appointment is on 11 Afpril.

...On the Swiss application there is no question about finances, how the trip is being paid for, employment etc...

From the list of "documentary requirements":

Proof of sufficient personal funds for the duration of stay in the Schengen countries (ca. CHF 100.00 per

day): bank statement/s for the last six months

Confirmed round-trip flight reservation

Confirmed hotel reservation/s for the entire duration of stay in the Schengen countries,

and/or signed invitation letter/s from a private person living in a Schengen Member State

From the visa application form:

19. Current occupation

20. Employer and employer’s address and telephone number.

If you are a Swiss or EU national, you can exercise your right to free movement under the Schengen treaty - this extends to your spouse. Your wife (but not her friends, unless they are also married to EU nationals) can obtain a Schengen tourist visa by presenting an application form along with passport and proof of marriage. Questions 31 to 34 on the application form do not need to be answered in this case, which includes those dealing with source of funds and support during her visit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that the above only applies if the non-EU national is traveling with or to join their EU spouse. If not, then they have to complete the whole form and provide all the evidence.

  • 3 weeks later...

My wife and her three Thai girl friend traveling companions had their appointment at the Swiss embassy yesterday (21 April) and all were given a 10 day visa valid for Swiss and onward travel to Milan and Paris. Had to provide lots of paperwork but guess what they gave them was enough. Thanks for the replies to my original post.
