I have several old postcards that were printed from black and white photos. I want to scan these images and reprint them in A4 size. However, my initial attempts to scan them result in a very pixelated scan image, even though the original image seems to have a high resolution.

what are the recommended scanner settings to ensure the best quality reproduction of these b&w postcard photos?

Thanks

What you are seeing is called a 'moire' pattern caused by the scanner resolution interfering with the screen-printing system used to create the postcards.

If you scanner software has a 'de-screen' option, turn it on :)
