TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Commander of Islamic Republic of Iran Border Police, Hossein Zolfaqari, on Friday announced that the country's border air defenses will be improved with new air patrol bases.

"In order to strengthen security measures at the country's borders a master plan has been prepared and will be approved in the coming days," Zolfaqari said.

According to the Fars news agency, the decision to establish more air defense bases at the borders is aimed at improving air defense capability and tightening security control over borderlines.

"A major portion of border areas will be equipped with control towers, border checkpoints and whatever is needed for controlling the borders," Commander Zolfaqari added.

The Border Police chief remarked that extra helicopters and unmanned aircraft will be needed. For this end, a total of 30 trillion rials ($2.89 billion) was allocated for border security and control in the Fifth Economic Development Program.

Also on Friday, Iran unveiled, during Tehran's Strategic Technologies, its first home-made multipurpose micro fighter jet developed by the Iranian Dorna Aerospace Company.

The prototype model allowed designing and producing low-cost training fighter jets, long-range fighter jets capable of flying in high altitudes and guided cruise fighter jets with the capability of flying in low altitudes.

Iran has invested in improving its air industry, mainly for military purposes. The Islamic country ahs successfully gained technical knowledge to produce stealth aircraft and drones.

They apparently do not recognize that another perceived area/time of lax defense is during the multiple daily prayer times. Maybe they can devote time, money, and their expertise toward correcting this potential area of concern.
