Oilpalm thieves kill policeman

Krabi

A policeman and a security guard were killed and another guard injured by oilpalm thieves on Monday night, police said yesterday.

The culprits are suspected to live in the area.

After the shooting report at 7am, police went to Krabi Hospital to find the dead bodies of Pol Senior SgtMajor Wichien Khongnoo, 42, and Saha Palm security guard Prakob Kaewpitak, 48. Guard Pairat Phromin, 45, suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Police investigators found that after a report on Monday night of people stealing oilpalm bunches in the Palm Oil Industry plantation in Muang Krabi district's tambon Krabi Noi, Wichien went to the plantation with five security guards. At the entrance, the group ran into three suspected thieves on a motorcycle and sidecar loaded with oilpalm bunches, and told them to stop. But the suspects shot at Wichien and Prakob and fled.

Police later found the vehicle abandoned 50 metres from the shooting scene.

You mean because they are poor they wouldn't be able to buy themselves out of trouble or you think poor people get longer sentences?

But that still means they are only looking at the statutory sentence.

A lot less time than they are now looking at presumably ............

I would still like to know how much palmoil bunches go for, if anyone knows.

And no, I don't know how much palm oil bunches go for, but it isn't going to be much.

If i m not wrong, the price is around 3-4 bahs/kg of fresh oilpalm bunch... expect around 15kg per bunch, let you do the maths !!!
