Three Palestinians wounded after mortar fire in Gaza

2011-04-22 21:40:07 GMT+7 (ICT)

GAZA (BNO NEWS) -- Three Palestinians on Friday were injured by mortar shells allegedly fired by a tank near a United Nations compound in Gaza, the Ma'an news agency reported.

Three factory workers were injured in Ash-Shuja'iyeh, east of Gaza City. However, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) denied that the injuries were caused by one of its tanks and blamed errant Palestinian mortar fire instead.

IDF said that the mortar shells were fired by Gaza militants from the Sajaia refugee camp area. Hamas said that the attack was perpetrated by an IDF tank. The three individuals hurt were transported to the Ash-Shifa Hospital.

On Thursday, IDF stormed Gaza and demolished several buildings on the northern Karni crossing. Israel claimed that terrorists were using the buildings but Palestinians said that they were warehouses holding goods entered through the crossing.

Earlier this week, a Qassam rocket fired from the Gaza Strip struck the Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council, No injuries or damages were reported on Monday's rocket attack. On Friday evening, two rockets hit the southern cities of Ashkelon and Ashdod without causing any damage.

Over the past month, more than 100 projectiles were fired from Gaza into Israel, including 12 Grad rockets and dozens of Qassam rockets and mortar shells. Violence escalated last week after an Israeli school bus was attack. In retaliation, IDF strikes in Gaza resulted in the death of five militants.

In March, Israel deployed its first Iron Dome missile defense system in light of the recent rocket attacks in southern Israel. The system was designed to protect Israel's southern communities from rocket threats coming from the Gaza Strip.

Israel troops destroy structures by Gaza crossing

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories (AFP) – Israeli troops made a brief incursion into Gaza early on Thursday to demolish several buildings which the army said were being used by "terrorist organisations".

Palestinians said the buildings were warehouses holding goods which had been transferred to the Gaza Strip via the nearby Karni crossing, which Israel shut down earlier this year.

Witnesses said the buildings contained assorted equipment, children's diapers, scrap metal and cleaning detergent. The goods were damaged during the destruction of the warehouses.

The operation also damaged a room holding the electrical generators for the industrial zone near the Karni crossing, they said.

Typical of Israeli foriegn policy on Palestinians.Disgraceful. Pictures speak a thousand words. I wonder if they will be compensated for the damage done ? :o

Here's an idea. Stop firing rockets into Israel and then see what happens.

Exactly. The Hamas terrorists should stop hiding behind the civilians and the civilians should stop electing terrorists to represent them.

It is possible that some of the boys who are being issued these play toys may need some safety instruction as well as live fire instruction, prior to being turned loose for playtime.

Thanks for the reminder of the original topic. Palestinian terrorists score an own goal and blame it on the Israelis seeing as every death and injury on either side is useful for Hamas making this a good each way bet for them.

P.S I note they even tried to blame the murder of the Italian peace activist on Israel but couldn't get that idea to float.

Here is a crazy thought.

Since rockets are useless and have been for decades and every rocket gets a harsh response, one with half a brain would realize that perhaps there is a strong need for change in tactics to either learn how to use rockets, actually aim or simply stop firing them.

What totally startles me is that you always support rather useless and brainless actions, without even acknowledging that Hamas actions are really useless and not only do not achieve anything but bring grief to its people..

What sane or half brained government in the world continues with policy's which makes it only more worse for their people? And to make matters worse, in what country in the world, there are so many brainless people who support government such as that?

Patience. I guarantee that within a few months you will see the rumour presented as fact on various websites and then you will eventually see it posted in these forums.:whistling:

In the case of the warehouses that were taken out, I don't suppose it occurred to some that if the rockets were not being fired from the location there would have been no pacification activity. Those rocket launchers were used with the knowledge and agreement of the officials responsible for the warehouses.

Pacification?

In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defense of the indefensible. Things like the continuance of British rule in India, the Russian purges and deportations, the dropping of the atom bombs on Japan, can indeed be defended, but only by arguments which are too brutal for most people to face, and which do not square with the professed aims of political parties. Thus political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness. Defenseless villages are bombarded from the air, the inhabitants driven out into the countryside, the cattle machine-gunned, the huts set on fire with incendiary bullets: this is called pacification.

Anyway even if the argument that the Palestinians in Gaza are brainless people would be valid, it doesn't justify Israels war crimes, violations of international law and human rights.

No, the plain language explanation is with one word in its purest form; Pacification. To make peaceful.

No need for a long winded political discourse and no need to quote Orwell in this case particularly since no cattle were machine gunned, no huts set on fire with incendiary bullets, no inhabitants driven into the countryside, and no defenseless village was bombarded. These were uninhabitaed metal structures fromwhich missiles were launched. Again, it is really quite simple: Do not launch missiles and no one will take out the missile launching zone.

Israeli bulldozers and tanks operated in the area, destroying eight stores of Palestinian merchants and causing damage to a waste water treatment facility for the area, the witnesses said.

The sources said the losses of the Israeli operation were around one million U.S. dollars.

There was no tension on the border when the Israeli tanks entered the industrial zone, according to the witnesses.

Mahmoud Al-Yazji, head of the Palestinian Chamber of Commerce, condemned Israel's operation. "The aim of this operation is to destroy the rest of the industrial zone," he said in a statement.

"This is to kill any chance of reopening the Karni crossing, which is the lifeline of the Gaza Strip," he added.

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A farmer was hospitalized Thursday after Israeli soldiers shot him as he worked on his land in northern Gaza, medics said.

The 45-year-old man was shot in his stomach in the Abu Safieyah area of Beit Lahiya and transferred to the Kamal Adwan Hospital, medical services spokesman Adham Abu Salmiya said.

Abu Salmiya added that Israeli soldiers opened fire on residents of Beit Lahiya almost daily.

Israel unilaterally imposes a no-go zone along the border inside the Gaza Strip, and soldiers frequently shoot at Palestinians inside the area.

In Oxfam's latest report, the international organization said "In practice, Israel restricts access to agricultural land up to 1,000-1,500 metres from the fence, which accounts for more than 30% of Gaza's agricultural land and a significant number of water wells. Most of the Gaza Strip's animal production is also concentrated in this area."

So you condone firing rockets at civilians as long as they aren't accurate? That's insane.

Hamas will continue to fire rockets at Israel for so long as Israel receives more heat for retaliating than Hamas does for it's aggression. If external aid to Gaza was contingent on them not attacking Israeli civilians and the U.N refused to debate any Israeli retaliation to said attacks they would stop pretty quickly. But our peace loving liberal left will fight tooth and nail to stop this happening, humanitarians that they are.
