CAIRO, EGYPT (BNO NEWS) -- Egypt's state prosecutor on Friday extended the detention of former President Hosni Mubarak for another 15 days while investigation continues.

According to the Al-Ahram newspaper, the arrest of Mubarak was extended while authorities finalize the probe into a deadly crackdown on protesters and corruption. Mubarak has been under arrest in a hospital in the Red Sea town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Next week, a specialized medical committee will determine if the former Egyptian leader can be transported to Tora prison. Mubarak was admitted in hospital after experiencing a heart-attack.

On Thursday, a Cairo court ordered to remove the name and image of the ousted president and his wife from all public places and institutions which were named after them during the 30-year regime.

Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, the former leader's sons, were charged with profiteering, wasting public funds and illegally accumulating wealth. The two brothers were imprisoned in south Cairo for the duration of the probe.

Mubarak, 82, is accused of ordering the killing of protesters in Tahrir Square during the January 25 Revolution as well as many abuse of power and illicit profiteering counts. He is reportedly in delicate condition following the minor heart-attack.

The ousted president ruled Egypt in a 30-year-long regime which began in 1981. He stepped down this year after weeks of anti-government protests by crowds calling for greater democracy and respect of human rights.
