LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) -- Actress Lindsay Lohan on Friday was sentenced to 120 days in jail for violating her probation by taking a necklace at a Venice jewelry store.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Lohan also was sentenced to 480 hours of community service at a downtown women's center and the Los Angeles County morgue.

The 24-year-old 'Mean Girls' actress immediately said she would appeal the sentence.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner said Lohan only returned the necklace when she learned a search warrant was being served by the L.A. Police Department.

A one of a kind necklace valued at $2,500 was taken from a jewelry store in the Venice area of Los Angeles on January 22. Lohan allegedly walked out of the store with the necklace after which the owner reported the theft to police, which investigated the allegation and presented evidence to the L.A. County District Attorney's Office.

As part of the Grand Theft investigation, Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Area obtained a search warrant on February 1 for Lohan's Venice residence to search for the necklace. Prior to service of the warrant, the necklace was returned to Pacific Detectives.

Earlier in the day, Sautner reduced the felony charges, which greatly reduced the amount of jail time the star could face if convicted.

Lohan finished a 90-day rehab program at a Rancho Mirage, California clinic, where she was released on January 3, following a DUI conviction in 2007. Last year, the actress failed to meet the terms of her probation on several occasions, which led her to serve jail time and rehab.
