Thaksin may also be the only ex-PM to have been convicted

Chuan Leekpai, Democrat Party leader and former PM has been convicted by the National Counter Corruption Commission.

His brother, Raluek, allegedly embezzled billions from the Thai banks and fled to Taiwan, only returning to Thailand once the statute of limitations on his crime expired.

Keep 'em coming.

Dig up some details, dear HighCommand. Comparing k. Chuan and k. Thaksin in their cases is like telling me the RTA and it's Cambodean counterpart are friends ;)

god bless the Army for being the only force strong enough to allay this meglomaniacs lust for power

17 coups and 19 constitutions in 70 years.

Thaksin, the only elected Thai PM to serve a full term and the only Thai PM to be re-elected.

Until now, the current PM has served his full term and hopefully will be re-elected soon. If the election is a fair one.

Did some digging, but not many details.

Chuan himself was found by the National Counter-Corruption Commission to have undeclared shareholdings in a rural cooperative. It seems these shares were given to him and had a value of less than THB 1M.

On the other hand of course we have our hero-in-shiny-armour who made a very honest mistake is forgetting to tell about the THB billions he had given a chauffer and siome maids (while keeping control). That time the judges said 'yes, from the tears on his face we can see he made an honest mistake'. Read about it; and sorry this is a really left-wing website, those guys who promote socialism , democracy and the like ;)

The NCCC doesn't convict anyone. It is not a court. Nice try though!

Which of course means that Thaksin is the ONLY one that has been convicted :)

You expats all posting your exper opinions all the time should be aware that Thaksin also has an army of people watching your posts here and when he DOES get back in, your ip adresses shall get you all a free ticket back to your own countries and myself shush you all a farewell and don't let the door .........

I think Mr. T should be ordering you all to stay out of Thai politics although you all seem to think that YOU should all be running the country. I also think you should ALL keep quiet with your opinions regarding a Thai's statement (whether he is on the run or not) love for the Monarchy.

I hope you all get ousted when Mr. T does get back in for your anti Thaksin postings here.

Impersonation of a fake red police officer? I recall one or two postings like this at the height of the May 2010 events when the reds thought they had the wind in their sales and they were doing things like intimidating people by forced searches on the Bangkok walkways and imposing the red version of 'law and order'.

As for the army staying out of politics what this translates as is 'we are considering going back on the streets and this time please would you step aside'. If there is one thing Thaksin does well it is talking out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. He knows and has known since 2006 when he blew his hand is that the army was the final piece of the jigsaw he did not have in place to secure his ownership of state power. He is not advocating the army staying out of politics. Silly. He is advocating the army staying out of (not opposing)his politics. His dirty politics. Now that's better. And even better would be if they were on his side (controlled by Thaksin's boys). Then the complaints would stop. Immediately.

Correct. And long may the current Army generals loyal to the Monarchy, their country and the Thai people stand ready to intervene in the country's governance as long as scum like Thaksin are around.

The Thai military have a long and proven history of interference in Thai Politics.

Chaiyasit Shinawatra is a former Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

Army urges Thaksin to stay out of Thai politics

Monday AM

I will if you will,

(said with fingers crossed behind back)

This is the crux of the matter, especially for all those pro Red farangs who aren't particularly in love with Thaksin but certainly want to see the military back off.

Yet .... still a much better and less violent 70 year history than ... hmmm .... Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Burma , .... and a few more in the region.

You comparing apples with oranges. The true comparison should be South Korea with which economically and politically (both then fairly primitive) Thailand was approximately level pegging in the 1950's.Actually Thailand was somewhat ahead.

Both have done well economically but South Korea has powered ahead.Politically South Korea has reformed its army so that it concentrates on its function. In Thailand political development has been stunted and the army continues to interfere in politics.

Well if Thailand were populated by Koreans, then a comparison with Korea may be easier to rationalize.

Thailand and South Korea may have been level pegging in the 1950's, but with the Korean War and the involvement and investment by the US following the war, South Korea had a pretty good external boost. Also, having 20% the area of Thailand and 4 times the population density, makes that investment go further.

There may be some areas that you could compare, but it's more apples and oranges than comparing Thailand with other SEA countries.

Not that I think he will ever be coming home again, but surely he has promised "no revenge", when he returns ? <_<

I would hope against-hope that his having lived in more-democratic countries (like the Uk & Germany), during his voluntary absence, has taught him to have more tolerance and respect of differing opinions, and the need for freedom-of-speech ? Indeed he sometimes claims to now be fighting for democracy and freedom, although he has quit Thai politics, are you saying that in fact we casual-observers ought not to believe his statements ?

I personally don't think I should be running the country, that is for the Thai people (including my many relatives here), but that doesn't mean I wish to see a mad kleptomaniac despot in charge, or that I can be threatened into silence as you suggest I ought to be.

Did you never live in a dictatorship ? It is not pretty. B)

Don't worry, I'll be first one on the plane if it happens.

Intimidation and an implicit threat at all disenting voices here.

I'll note the recent influx of newer posters with the same tactics and same point of view, that suddenly appeared JUST as the election is coming into view. And predictably go after certain posters that do not follow the Thaksin is good political line.

Where are they when Thaksins interests are not on the line?

Perception Management professionals? Well it is not a stretch to think so. As opposed to our regular trolls and disrupters who have their own ideas on freedom of thought, speech and individuals pursuing their own best interests.

I'm utterly confused by this post. My hero just said "Today I'm ready to go home and serve the ppl. I will not take revenge; will only fix things." Who should I believe, k. Thaksin or member Yenoormit, or maybe none of them?

Yes, no revenge AFTER he wins for Thais...

well except those nasty farangs, how dare they have opinions,

they don't count, being sub-Thai money trees.

In Thailand political development has been stunted and the army continues to interfere in politics.

Separating the military from politics can be worked out later. In the short term, the priority should be to keep Thaksin and Pheu Thai away from running the country.

A. It is amazing to me to read that Thaksin is responsible for 90 deaths in BKK. Generally, right-wing contributors blame him for the fires, but convoluted thinking abounds among Expats. Seems to me that there is another story possible, when we know the facts.

B. The army's chief has promised to stay out of the picture after the election, and we all know that such a high official's word is every bit as reliable as its history demonstrates.

The blame for the 90 deaths has to be shared by government and UDd / red-shirts. As red-shirt and PTP are interwoven, k. Thaksin is PTP, I guess k. Thaksin is also responsable.

K. Thaksin has stated time and time again to stay out of politics. He has stated 'not to know the red-shirts', etc., etc. Mind you, he isn't a high official, he's just a convicted criminal on the run.

(edit: add: this sticker just needs another face :ermm: )

Thank you thank you thank you - for your insight into just how democratic our future President is - his respect for freedom of speech does him justice in the tru tradition of truth today - I have a Thai wife and son and i pay taxws - MORE than most Thais do - so in a democratic country i WOULD be entitled to a free opinion - which if you dont like youre welcome not to read!! Besides Thaksins a chinaman and being Thai doesnt automatically make you right!! Threats dont worry me I have a PhD and 30 experience in my job - i can live in most coutrys while \thailand will become the laughing stock of the world if old square head comes back!!

at least he didnt steal 400 billion in tax payers money to feed into Shincorp then sell to Singapore whilst at the same time passing and trying to personally push through a bill to make this the LAST sale of a Thai company allowed - he is dispicable as is anyone who twists the truth to supporting him - "KEEP EM COMING RED SHIRT "

Jayboy jayboy jayboy - you really do have to clutch at straws in your current position of "red advisor to Thaivisa.com" dont you?? the first and most simple evidence I would provide is Thaksins conviction by the courts for that very offence - did he flee the country so he could watch Coronation Street do you suppose? The problem is - even if I provided you with further proof you wouldnt change your antisocial views now would you?? Youve been to swayed by the party at Rachpreasong havent you?? by the way - i notice Bucholtz destroyed you again on another recent thread - that was funny!!

I asked you to justify your claim that Thaksin stole billions. You haven't replied but now quantify the theft at 400 billion (rather typically you don't specify the currency). In any event I challenge you again to substantiate your statement with some hard facts.
