Two German teenagers die when bus slams into tree

2011-04-24 22:46:10 GMT+7 (ICT)

BERLIN (BNO NEWS) -- Two teenagers were killed and several others were injured when a small bus veered off a road in northern Germany on Sunday, police said.

The accident happened during the early morning hours at a road near the city of Salzgitter, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) west of Berlin, when the bus carrying six people went off the road and smashed into a tree.

Police said an 18-year-old person was driving the vehicle, but it was not immediately known whether alcohol could have been involved in the crash.

All six people aboard the bus were initially trapped and had to be rescued by emergency services, who used heavy equipment to free them. Two of them, aged 18 and 17, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other victims, whose ages are between 14 and 18, were later transported to an area hospital where they remain in a critical condition.

Police are investigating the accident.

Be grateful we are spared the gory roadside photos.

Gory roadside photos would be the only thing that would justify such a broad diffusion.

Sorry for the victims, but road accidents shouldn't be reported here, except if the number of victims is exceptionally high.

Can I appeal for a better filtering of news stories?
