Hello. I have been giving my puppy bottled water for the last couple of months as suggested by the breeder. Apparently tap water in Thailand even for dogs can be dodgy. My other dog drank tap water for a year with no issues. What do you guys do? And what is the danger with tap water?

Purified or bottled water for a puppy is wise until it builds its own immunity. Considering the small amounts consumed and the fact that a big bottle of Singha is only 50baht, its not a question of money.

I know some will disagree, but clean water keeps a vulnerable animal clean until it can do what dogs do and that's to drink and consume all matter of things that drive one nuts.

My Thai friends use purified drinking water for their dogs, but the little swimming pool (kiddie type is filled with tap water and the adult dogs will consume that too sometimes.)

Thanks for the reply, appreciated. I have been giving them both bottled water for a couple months now. I got into a slight argument with the pool cleaner guy this morning because when I woke up, i went down to the yard and he was hosing water into the water bowls. I kinda politely thanked him for showing care but explained that, you know.... They are my dogs and only I take care of them...... They have water already, they dont need the bowls topping up. He said he had been doing it twice a week every time he comes to clean the pool for the last month. This p1ssed me off even more as they are my dogs and I do a pretty good job of taking care of them! I also dont like the idea of making the effort to go and buy Singha bottled water only for someone else to negate that.

I stayed polite of course but then he gave me that puzzled look that a Thai gives a ferang and started laughing with his buddies so I kinda got a bit p1ssy with him.

I work nights and dont usualy get up untill mid day usualy by then they have been and gone.

But it got me thinking..... If he has been doing it twice a week for the last month..... Maybe there is no harm in it?

Either way you are right, I would rather not take the risk and will continue to give them bottled water. I will also keep the gate locked so that he has to wake me up to come and clean the pool.

I honestly dont like the idea of anyone giving my dogs anything - even water.

I don't really think there's any harm in tap water, as dogs will drink from any puddle they see, and it doesn't seem to hurt them. But I agree, for vulnerable puppies, use whatever water you drink yourself (we drink rainwater mostly, artesian water when there's no rain).
