Hello, I am in Bkk on a tourist visa just now but start a new job for a big company next month. I have been reading too much information and so am confused - would somebody please confirm the following?

1. My new employer must give me

  • a letter showing they will employ me and pay me
  • and a "WP3" letter

2. Then I go overseas and apply for non-immigrant B (pref multiple entry)

3. Then I come back and apply for the work permit

4. Once I get the work permit I have to report every 90 days? or do I have to go out of the country again?

Have I got this right? I read somewhere I also have to take my contract, degree, company financial information etc etc??

Thanks.

the employer has to qualify to employ a farang, company value, no of employees, records and existance

the job has to qualify for a farang 9 google it) some jobs cannot be done by farang

then the bit you list

with your qualifications and the above the apply for a wp for you to work.

i DO have to leave every 3 months which is a total pain in the arse, but some dont. thats not because of the wp its the vis you get ( non imm B)

No worries about the employer as they are a big international firm with 1000 employees here. They must have done this before but the HR I am emailing seems a bit lost/vague. I guess i have to ask them for some sort of financial statement from the company.

Cannot believe I may have to leave the country every 90 days - what a system.

Did you have to show a bank statement and your degree?

You apply for a WP in Bangkok (I think this is where you will be working), then you take the receipt and go to KL for example, there with the letter and other documents from the Company you get a Non Immigrant B visa, return to Thailand, collect the WP, then get your company to get all the documentation together within the first 90 days, and apply for an extension at Chaeng Wattana, then after getting the extension, go to the WP office and get the WP valid upto the date of the extension of stay in your passport, then every 90days your HR girl will take your passport and go to the Immigration office for you and report you as still being in Thailand.

If it is an international firm, the should have done this before and know the routine

They will provide you with a whole heap of company documents + WP3 (application for WP) - you go to a local country in SEA with Thai consulate and put your passport in with the whole heap of docs they have given and pay the fee, come back next day and pick up your PP with your Non-imm B.

Chances are you will not get a mutiple entry but a single entry.

Come back to Thailand and start work, once your WP is approved, typically 1-2 weeks with big companies, and you meet the criteria for extension of stay, which I asumming you will as your are working for an international company, you will go back to immigration and get your extension of stay based on employment and your mutiple re-entry permit stamped in your passport which is usually good for a year at a time, you will renew this every year.

If on extension of stay you do not have to leave every 90 days, you mearly do a 90 day report in country, which takes 5 minutes.

Yo do not have to show your bank statements, you may have to supply details of your education for the WP but certainly not for the Non-imm B application..

Thanks all.

There is a bit of information out there on the net that gave me the impression the whole process would take forever and i would not be able to start work for months, I would almost have to take the employers books with me and I would be back and forth to Cambodia every few months.

Your information clarifies a lot.
