Actor Nicolas Cage being investigated for child abuse

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Actor Nicolas Cage is being investigated for child abuse, less than 2 weeks after police arrested him in New Orleans, Louisiana for suspicion of domestic abuse.

On Friday April 15, Cage, of Long Beach, California, 47, was arrested at around 11:30 p.m. local time in New Orleans' French Quarter district for suspicion of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace, and public intoxication.

During the incident, Cage and his wife Alice Kim had been arguing in a car as he was intoxicated and driving to pick up their 5-year-old son who was at a friend's house.

After the arrest, Kim said Cage stumbled down due to his intoxicated state while carrying his son, causing a minor injury to the boy's knee. However, according to a witness, Cage pulled the boy down to the ground by his hand, TMZ reported.

As a result, Cage, who had been described by police as "hysterical" and "irrational," is being investigated after a child abuse detective was notified of the incident.

The arrest was a result after onlookers flagged down a police officer because Cage allegedly grabbed his wife's arm while apparently drunk. He was later released on an $11,000 bail.

At the age of 32, Cage, who has appeared in over 60 films throughout his career, became the fifth youngest actor to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 1995's 'Leaving Las Vegas.' Other notable films in which cage has appeared include 'Raising Arizona,' 'The Rock,' 'Con Air', 'Face/Off,' and 'Adaptation.'
