BANDUNG, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesia's Transportation Ministry on Wednesday said the Southeast Asian country is looking to have 65 international airports in 15 years.

Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi told Antara news agency that in order to increase the competitive edge of national transportation, the government was planning to increase the number of international airports from 45 to 65 in 2030.

Numberi spoke at Widyatama University in Bandung, West Java, saying that the ministry was also pushing to develop Indonesia's sea transportation by increasing its number of seaports from 26 to 32 in 2030.

In addition, the minister talked about increasing the capacity of road and ferry networks, further connecting Indonesia's vast regions, which are made up of islands.

As one of Asia's top growing economies, Numberi explained that the growth of Indonesia's transportation infrastructure would support its economic activities.
