I got a CBR250r and got it b4 sonkran but the dealer is a bit slow I had to give a certificate of residency and they made a copy let me keep the original. Now later they ask me for the original because the land transport office wanted the original. So i brought it. But i think it can take an other week or 2 before i get the plates. Is it safe to drive this way. It is insured and paid for of course.

i drove around in BKK without plate around 6 weeks or more never had problem. Once i got stopped they wanted to see the insurance slip and it was ok. But i am located little bit outside....

The law in Thailand is very clear and simple regarding license plates, every vehicle needs one if on the public road. But, most Bangkok police districts accept that you ride the motorcycle from the dealer to your home, and many more variations can be found...

But I would say that you can ride around 30 days with the excuse that the license plates are at the Department of Land Transport.... (Still this is no excuse for some police officers, riding without a legal license plate is 200 THB, and that is probably 100 THB in direct donation)

30 days and show the officer the paper that you get with the bike to confirm registration has been applied for.

Thanks, im well within that time but i want to go fishing Sunday close to an area that has many bars. I am pretty sure that the police will be out in force and i just dont want to have any problems. I called the dealer and they said i will have plates next week.

from the day of Insurance, max 30 days and 3.000 km is the law. Actually you are supposed to have red plate during this time, but BKK and CM does not usually fine for no plate during these 30 days.

being in breach of plate law as above, fine was increased 6 months ago to up to 50.000 baht

I was told that the 50,000 THB penalty was for riding without registration and insurance? Riding without Thai license plates, because it fall off, is just 200 THB. Maybe somebody else can shine some light on that...

I have to agree that it's unlikely that you get a ticket within 30 days...

Ok good, because i would hate to be hassled by the cops over this. Just want to ride the bike a bit more havent had much time for it and i thought i would have had the plate by now. But Song Kran and a clerk that asked the wrong documents made things go slow.

I live in Udon and have been waiting for 4 months to get plate. They say there is a shortage of plate material.

hehehehe, the seller needs to pay vehicle to supplier before docs are issued needed for registration. Whenver they are out of cash, plates are unavailable. If you go to DLT you will see tons of plates waiting for takers ;)

BTW Udon Thani, my GF friends Fino purchased new, got white plates in 2 weeks only.
