MANCHESTER (BNO NEWS) -- British police on Wednesday released five men who were arrested under the terrorism act near a nuclear facility in northwest England on Monday afternoon, officials said.

The five men were arrested on Monday afternoon by officers from the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, which is tasked with providing law enforcement and security at civil nuclear installations, after conducting a vehicle stop near Sellafield.

Sellafield, which is previously known as Windscale, is a facility that is responsible for decommissioning and reprocessing nuclear waste and fuel manufacturing on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. It is located near the Seascale village in Cumbria.

The men, all in their 20s, were reportedly making photographs of the plant. The arrests, under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, were not as a result of intelligence and were not related to Sunday's death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"Officers have conducted a thorough investigation and a decision has been made to release the five men without charge," a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said, giving no other details.

British officials have called on the public to remain vigilant after the death of Bin Laden, whose organization was allegedly behind the 2005 London transport bombings which killed 56 people and injured more than 700 others.
