Yearly Motorbike Inspection In Kata/Karon?

Featured Replies

Is there a garage for the yearly motorbike inspection in Kata/Karon? The one I knew in Kata closed long time ago.

I know there is one in Rawai, and several in Phuket town.

Thanks

I have never heard of a yearly motorbike inspection, only a 10 year. You must register and pay for insurance yearly, which includes having to put a piece of tape over the serial number and rub it with a pencil to confirm the motorbike is the one the Green Book was issued to... But to answer you original question, I don't know... I live in Rawai and have been going to the same guy for so long that his son now runs the business.

There is an inspection certificate required each year when the motor bike is over 5 years old (car when over 7 years old). Sort of like an MOT test in the Uk, but really they only check that the chassis number matches the log book. They are supposed to check lights, horn, brakes, silencer, and exhaust emission level. But most of these places do the minimum serial number, pay the 60 baht, and that's it. There is not a test place in Karon and the one in Kata has closed. I use one of the test places near the vehicle licence office in Phuket Town.

Interesting. When one of my motorbikes turned 10, it got an emissions test (on a 2 stroke) and a sticker, nothing since. And nothing ever on my now 7 year old 4 stroke bike. But I wouldn't ride a bike that isn't properly maintained...

Do you get the annual tax sticker by yourself, or do you use an agent ? Might be the agent is dealing with the test certificate as when you apply for tax you must provide the tear-off from your insurance certificate and the test certificate once the bike is 5 years old.

I just go to the same testing place I have always gone to, as they sell the insurance and they get the tax sticker for me. They charge 100 Baht to take care of it all and I don't have to drive to the Land Transportation office. So, I guess since he is the guy who issues the test certificate, I never see it. I just pick up the completed paperwork the next day. Same with my car. But it's nice to know that he includes the test certificate for the 100 Baht service fee. I always figured it was worth 100 Baht not to have to drive to Phuket from Rawai...

There is a very honest motorbike shop.. just opposite the insurance office. North of Big one, same side of the street and very near the Bouganvillia / Locanda sign. His name is Chewy. I will go and just give him my green book and let him deal with it all....

My ex used him for years to service his bikes too and still does.
