As a foreigner working in Thailand, are there any foreign exchange or other guidelines which would prevent me from being paid outside of Thailand for my work in Thailand. Obviously I must pay tax in Thailand on all remunderation related to my Thai employment.

If so, can you refer me to the applicable legislation.

Thanks.

The short answer is I have no idea but my understanding of the law suggests that if you are deemed to be resident in Thailand for tax purposes then you will need to pay tax on yoyur income as you point out in your post. additionally I understand that you would have topay tax on any income brought into Thailand during the year in which it was earned.

If you are paid offshore I can see problems should you have a need to repatriate any of it during the year.

Also as regards the remittnace of funds overseas I can not point you to any legislation except that the reason for all such payments appears to be asked for by the paying agent in question and amounts of a certain size appear to be be directed to the BOT.

If there is no such relevant legislation iI can not see why anyone would need to ask.

Thailand certainly would seem to want to keep as much moneyb as possible circulating in Thailand

Then again I could be completely full of it.

Best of luck

Farang888,

difficult to answer with the limited information provided.

However, lets try. Doing legal business in Thailand, presume you're here on a non-immigrant visa, B or O or similar. See also http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=46666.

This entails that you, or your sponsor will have to inform the authorities, depending on your business, about the activities. It is then basically up to them, to decide how to go about the authorisation to do business in Thailand. The exchange laws are quite clear and may be checked at http://www.bot.or.th/bothomepage/index/index_e.asp.

With more details more information is available.

Cheers.......kandt

I work for a major Thai company, pay tax in Thailand, and my salary goes straight into my Singapore bank account. All fully transparent, fully legal. Pay your taxes, and you can do what you want with your money.

So the answer is yes.

1. You are liable for tax if you stay in the country for more than 180 days in a calendar year.

2. Your tax liability is related to how much money you bring into Thailand in that year.

You should discuss this with your employer, they may declare a nominal

monthly payment, 60K or more. They may need this to justify your work permit. This will also determine your tax liability.

IME most expat contracts are inclusive of tax, so you should not have to

worry about this.
