Hi

I have some friends visiting me in July, unfortunately the timing of my current 3 months of having to report to the IO because of my work permit falls on a tricky time when I will need my passport.

My boss has power of attorney and can take my passport for me 7 days before the finishing date (which is the 11th of July) however we will be traveling around Thailand at that time and I will no doubt need my passport for hotel check ins.

I could go to the border myself before they arrive and get another three months but that would waste time and money. They are only here for three weeks and are wary of the 15 day only re-entry stamp they get.

My other boss was telling me of a tourist visa with a re-entry permit that will give 30 days when you come back into Thailand. Does this exist? It doesn't say anything about it on the main site (unless I'm being blind!)

What's the score here?

It would be helpful to know their nationalities. For about 40 countries elgible for visa exempt entries, it is 15 days for land entry, 30 days if entering by air, and a Tourist Visa would give an entry of 60 days, that could be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee of 1900 Baht.

A re-entry permit keeps a current permitted to stay stamp time - so if they arrived with a permitted to stay of 30 July 2011 and obtained such a permit prior to exit on return would get the same 30 July 2011 permitted to stay stamp. It does not add or change the time - only keeps it alive.

Sorry Lildragon, but your post is somewhat confusing.

1. "report to the IO because of my work permit" - what has a work permit got to do with reporting to the IO (immigration office)?

If you are on an extension of stay for working, do you mean the 90 day report?

2. "My boss has power of attorney and can take my passport for me" - for the 90 day report??

Anything to do with an extension usually requires your presence, even if being done by a third party.

3. "I will no doubt need my passport for hotel check ins" - yes, you will.

4. "I could go to the border myself" - why would you go to the border if you have an extension of stay?

5. "get another three months" - this implies you do not have an extension of stay, but a multiple-entry non-immigrant visa.

If so, you would have to leave the country and there is nothing your employer could do about it, even with power of attorney.

6. "15 day only re-entry stamp" - do you mean they will get a 15 day Visa Exempt Entry when coming into Thailand?

There's no such thing as a "re-entry stamp", only a re-entry permit if they come into Thailand, leave Thailand and come back in again on the same 'permission to stay' entry.

7. " a tourist visa with a re-entry permit that will give 30 days" - tourist visa for whom? - re-entry permit, why?

8. "It doesn't say anything about it on the main site" - not surprised, doesn't make a lot of sense.

As said, please give more information so that more accurate advice can be given.

NB Depending on nationality:

a Visa Exempt Entry usually gives 30 days when arriving by air, 15 days when arriving overland;

a Tourist Visa usually gives 60 when arriving in the country;

but this can change for passport holders from some countries.

They are British passport holders.

90 day report is what I meant sorry. My boss takes my passport and I am never normally required to attend, I think she's "connected"

How would they apply for a re-entry permit in the UK?

Sorry for my poorly written post. It was quite late when I wrote it!

EDIT - There is one Zimbabwean passport holder, last time he came he got 90 days on arrival! Not sure what he would get an overland border crossing on the way back in.

I beg to differ. One passport is enough within a group. Alone: Yes. Group: No

Anyone can make the 90 day report - it does not have to be the passport holder if they authorize someone else to do it. You can not obtain a re-entry permit outside of Thailand - once you leave Thailand any stay/extension of stay ends if not obtained prior to exit.
