Metalwork Vice From 'British Record'

Featured Replies

hi there

anyone knows where I could buy a metalwork vice, specific the one from a British company - RECORD ? grew up with it and could not find any similar quality here.

HomePro - no

HomeWork - no

many thank !

Have you been to the tool shops in Chinatown ?

There is an area that has tools but only a few have "quality" tools

BK

You are looking for this exact brand?

Or you are looking for a good quality vice that is a similar style?

A photo for those who aren't familiar with this brand/style would be very helpful.

thanks BK, do you have names of these shops ? my wife is not a fan of China Town, didn't have a chance to walk into those shops :-(

yes beechstreet, 1st priority on this Bristish brand 'RECORD'. just a kind of memory, was using it from age of 12 to end of my university studies. it looks exactly the same like others, the vice body is painted in blue.

Interesting, looks like Irwin Tools (UK) owns the British Record name and produces their vises under that label. That's relatively good news for you as I have seen plenty of Irwin products in Thailand...

True Value carries their products but likely purchases from Irwin USA which doesn't appear to use the Record brand on their vises.

Cromwell is a UK company in Thailand that carries some Irwin tools but doesn't list the Irwin/Record vises in their catalog, they might be able to special order.

Another possible opportunity for you to find your vice would be the Intermach Machinery/Tooling show at Bitech next week. Bring a nice color print out of what you are looking for and ask anyone that is showing Irwin tools, "Quick-Grip" clamps, "Vice-Grips" or "UNI-Bit" stepped drill bits.

Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

thanks beechstreet, a lot of useful info !

yeah, I have no idea why Iewin carries RECORD products as well. I'm a bit too outdated in this supply market. will check with Cromwell if they have the RECORD vise. Quick Grip is a nice and handy product, but they don't have bench vice with the same gripping configuration.

will do a window shopping at intermach if I could find some interesting hand/bench tools :-)
