Has anyone here have experience of applying and being granted a multiple entry business visa for India, without having a work permit issued in Thailand.

I am currently holding a retirement visa and extension of stay for four years and am going to be applying next week.

I know that the Pakistan Embassy in Bangkok will not issue a visa for business without a work permit, but I have applied at the embassy in Cambodia and had no problems in the past,

Thanks

I have a good friend who did this through his travel agent.

He lives in Thailand on a retirement visa and everything was done through the travel agent. (He lives on Koh Samui.)

I apply for a multiple entry business visa for India with a validity of min. one year in Bangkok. The only special document you need is an ivitation letter from the Indian company/representative you like to work for. They have to write in the letter that they like to invite you many times during the next xy-years for meetings, not for physikal work. The rest shouldn't be an issue. I did it three years ago and I will apply for the visa again as soon as I'm back in Thailand, in about one or two weeks. Apply in the morning and with some luck pick it up same day, at least the following day. Good luck.

I can confirm, I never had a work permit in Thailand or any other country. This time I'm on a non-immigrant O based on marriage, last time I think I even hadn't this. I was never asked about my stay in Thailand, important was only this invitation letter.

Do let us know how you get on. The rules for issue of Indian visas have been tightened significantly over the last 6 months or so.

So much so that I'm considering telling them how far up to shove their business :(

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I know this is a late reply but I was busy the last months. As said before, no issues to obtain a visa, I just want to point out that once in India make sure you have printed out travell documents i.e. a print out of your e-tickets and travel data. Without this printed version of your flight data you will have no access to the check-in area and it may become difficult to find an office/shop which can print out the required documents for you. I nearly missed a flight because I had to queue up and wait long time to get my print outs. This is required for all airports in India.
