Weapons haul found outside shopping mall

By The Nation

An automatic weapon and some ammunition were discovered in a bag left in a drain in front of Siam Paragon shopping mall yesterday morning.

City workers cleaning the drain at the mall's third en-|trance found two bags around 10am.

The 25-centimetre-long gun, about 50 rounds of ammunition, and a magazine with 31 bullets for a .45 pistol - all in rusty |condition - were found in the large garbage bag, while another white plastic bag carried a giant firecracker, a silencer, about 10 glass balls and seven spent cartridges.

Police along with the bomb squad rushed to inspect the scene, which was then sealed for public safety, and took the evidence to the Pathumwan Police Station.

Worker foreman Sunant Wuttisak, 50, said his team was cleaning the drain starting from Pathumwan Intersection to Ratchaprasong Intersection when they discovered the bags |in a drain in front of Siam Paragon.

He said he had cleaned the drains in the area after the red-shirt protest ended and had found guns and ammunition frequently, each time alerting the police.

Pathumwan Police Station superintendent Colonel Kittipan Junthakan said the weapons seemed to have been in the drain for a long time. He believed it was unlikely they were linked to the current political situation and so far had no idea to whom they belonged.

Firearms Found in Sewer Outside Bangkok Shopping Mall

Workers from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration have found weapons and ammunition hidden in a sewer in front of Siam Paragon shopping mall.

Police have been informed and a probe will be carried out to find who left the weapons there.

One Ingram submachine gun along with a magazine fully loaded as well as a shotgun with seven shells and 20 spent cartridges were found by workers of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, or BMA, who were dredging a drain in front of Bangkok's Siam Paragon Shopping Center.

The BMA's Drainage and Sewerage Department chief Sunan Wutthisak revealed that a big black plastic bag was found in one of the sewer holes in front of the shopping mall while BMA workers were dredging the drain.

The workers opened the bag and found the weapons inside before calling police to examine the items.

However, Sunan was unable to confirm whether BMA workers had earlier dredged the sewers from Ratchaprasong Intersection to Siam Paragon after the red-shirt protests ended last May.

Sunan said the sewer lid must be lifted for the bag to be put inside.

Police have sent the guns and ammunition to the Scientific Crime Detection Division for further examination to find the origin of the weapons.

Is it so difficult for RTP to find out at least the origin of the automatic weapons, suppressors, and ammo. They likely belong to the men in uniforms, due to the characteristic of the weapons and accessories, and the location they were found. But giant fire cracker?

How in the world did you come to that conclusion?

These types of weapons can be bought and used by anyone.crazy.gif

The shots fired into the temple on the 19th May last year are said to be fired from where exactly again?

They seem to be using "weapons haul" pretty liberally here. It sounds like they found a gun and some ammo.

Must have been planted by the government to make those 'peaceful protesters, not terrorists' look bad. Please inform k. Jatuporn, k. Prompong and of course Robert A. :)

BTW still no comment from PTP, UDD, or other red-shirts on the HRW report? Only the 'see, government/army to blame'?

An ingram (likely a MAC-10) is an interesting find. If indeed it is an Ingram, it's quite old, as Ingram hasn't made them in quite some time.

More information on the Ingram Mac-10 found HERE and HERE

Comparatively, there are a ton more uzi's of various types out there than Macs.

Yes these things can be and are all over the place, however the police certainly know and can trace manufacturer and the "End Use" certifacts and most certainly will

Yeah I was expecting 100 AK-47s and a few rockets launchers myself.

Agree, would you please share the reasons for your statement.

The mini submachine gun are not permissible for civilians to import. It is not very good for shooting at 10 meter target, more like toy gun in following mini UZI. Very few were used by police and military units for security purpose. Saw some in the American old movies.

Crooks can get AK or AR (which are more popular) easily, and lot of spare why bother.

Weapons thrown down a drain...gee, who would have done that, when the rally was breaking up, hoping to avoid arrest...gee I wonder.

Probably those same thais that don't bother to fight,as you said in another thread.

Wonder what Jatuporn Prompan's theory is going to be on this. Something along the lines of: "These weapons were deposited by police/army after our peaceful protesters had left the area in the hope that they would eventually be discovered so the illegitimate government can heap more blame on us, the unarmed and innocent victims in this charade."

Well... Whilst i certainly know the reds were armed to the teeth...

Isnt it a strange coincidence that they are found at this time, just before elections...

Perhaps the gov sleepers are planting things to remind voters that the reds were anything but peaceful...

What a dirty political world we live in...

Probably state of the art for an Issan hardware store.

Or just perhaps it was dumped there as the red shirts were retreating to the temple.

How often do they clean the drains in Bangkok?

The red shirt terrorists? Your freedom fighters lobbing grenades and burning buildings - as long as they are paid?

No money, no honey - the red shirt official slogan

Not to be "picky" guys....but niether you or I (especially the I part) probably has any idea who or where the weapon(s) came from...so trying to speculate on who they belonged to is really just guess work, isn't it?

You are most likely correct in some ways , without these types of prolific posts , thaivisa would diminish by some 50% , take away the inanity of " do you wear a wrist-watch" , " is it 'naff' (?) to wear a belt container for your cell phone " etc and I wonder where the seemingly totally bored members would spend so much of their time .

I admit that I have learned things of consequence here on thaivisa , but on average my ' Look ins ' are merely to gain a laugh or two and keep my brain semi-active to appreciate I have not sank that low in my second childhood of old age .

^ I reckon if Thaksin genuinely pulled out of Thai affairs and opened a little newsagent to while away the time the site would be reduced to 3 members. One asking a question about sinsod, another asking where the best place to buy Pepsi is and the third starting a poll asking the colour of your navel lint.

I use to own a Cobray m-11, which is essentially the same firearm.

I guarantee no law enforcement officer would ever be stupid enough to use that gun to shoot anything smaller than a side of a barn.

Those guns use to come in kits, all you had to do was fold the sheetmetal in the kit and form the guns body.

Only just found them ?

And just how long has it been since the violent reds left the area ?

Just goes to show you how frequently the Thais believe in maintenance, It is no wonder the rancid smell from the drains in Bangkok is a joke amongst visitors there.

Makes you wonder what else lurks unseen in the sewers of Bangkok.

Maybe Mr. T is really hiding in the sewers.

Thank you "The Nation" for educating on me on the correct usage of the word "haul"; as I foolishly believed it to have completely different meaning.

Thaksin put it here for sure...he cam by night put it here then came back to cambodia to drink with Hue Sen and plan to destroy Thailand with the red hearless peoples of 'who give a sh..' Isaan region. After that the red leaders decided to rip appart thailand, give 1/3 to cambodia, 1/3 to Laos, 1/3 to china, 1/3 to Myanmar and 1/3 to malaysia...yes this is 5/3 but as they are uneducated, stupids, selfish, greedy, they don t care.

But the PAD was awaken by Buddha whispiring in ears of yellow narak narak shirts that something happened so they just wipe everyone with suay army and magic nim nim bullets which tcha kati the red in temples.

Somanamna evil, bad redshirts. Yellow wins again...they just put some weapon here for fun...

it's amazing how previous posters made conclusions so easily and so wrong as everyone know i am the only one who tell the truth
