The Election Commission has advised Abhisit Vejjajiva not to invoke priviledges accorded to his position as prime minister when he is on the campaign trial.

Abhisit on Wednesday met with the five EC members for a consultation on the prime minister's involvement in campaigning.

Following the meeting, Abhisit's secretary general Anchalee Wanich Theppabutr revealed the following guidelines on Abhisit's perks during campaigning:

- A ban for campaigning on office hours. The EC advises the prime minister to take a leave of absence if he has to make campaign appearances during work.

- A ban for using government-issued bullet proof vehicles during campaigning. The prime minister and Cabinet members could, however, be provided with protection from security details while on campaign trial.

- The prime minister is obligated to uphold Article 182 of the Constitution.

The charter provision prescribes for incumbent office holders not to take advantage of state personnel and resources to impact on the poll.

"A ban for using government-issued bullet proof vehicles during campaigning. "

Do they want to give ideas to sick minded people?

One of the most ridiculous decisions on record....Even by Thailand standards.

How many people desperately would want to Kill Abhisit if the get the chance?

It may not be 10's of thousands, but it will not be an inconsequential number.

With the bombings and shooting happening in the last few years,

it is totally idiotic to expect him to give up armored vehicles.

If he loses the election, that's the time for removing that safety measure.

There are already sick minded people that don't require ideas to be planted in them...

Mr. Abhisit while campaigning for re-election is not doing it for the benefit of the country, but himself and the party to which he belongs.

Per provisions in the law, the security detail will be provided. The bullet proof car can and it should be furnished by the party he is a member of. Otherwise his campaigning expenses would be paid, in this regard, by the taxpayers.

That is the reason that as a candidate he cannot campaign during his work hours and if he needs to, he must take a leave of absence.

The intent of the law is clear: prevent unfair advantages by an incumbent prior and during elections.
