My Thai wife will have a baby in Australia.

She does not yet have Australian citizenship but will in the future.

She is in Australia on a spouse visa.

The Baby will get australian citizenship automaticly.

Will the baby be eligable for Thai citizenship?

Absolutely. Mine are the other way, Thai first ,Oz second. When she returns to Thailand ,she applies. Not sure where ,but expect it is the amphur where she has "Tabian Ban", ( Thai house registration). They can have dual nationality + 2 passports. Mine leave Thailand on a Thai passport ,enter Oz on their Oz passport , Leave Oz on Oz passport, enter Thailand on their Thai passport. Simple, no visas required.

Just noticed ,she intends to apply for Oz citizenship. I think she will need to register the baby , before she does! Might be serious complications, once she is Australian,

After birth in Oz you should obtain a Thai birth certificate from the Thai Embassy and a Thai passport. Child has Thai nationality by birth but you do need that Embassy birth certificate for the future registration on a Thai Home Register and obtaining Thai ID card and future passports in Thailand.

No implications at all for the wife once she naturalises as an Australian citizen. Once Thai, always Thai and her rights and entitlements don't change. She just also will happen to have an OZ passport in additition.

When you are ready, the child can be registered at the Thai embassy in Canberra via mail and a thai birth certificate can be issued, which will formally recognise the child as a Thai citizen.

Depending on how convenient canberra is, you can go there to apply for a Thai passport at any time. Otherwise, if you need a passport for the child, register with the local Thai consulate in your state capital to be notified when embassy staff come to take Thai passport applications. You can then attend there is person.
