Say what? Is he claiming that although Thailand has already eradicated drugs in the past, it needs to do so again now? Sounds like something is getting lost in the translation or the Thai and English meanings of eradicate differ in regards degree. :o

PRIME MINISTER EMPHASIZES AUTHORITIES OF MINISTRY OF INTERIOR TO COOPERATE IN ERADICATION OF DRUGS

At the launch of the fourth drug suppression campaign at Government House yesterday, Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA stressed the importance of having government related agencies and the Thai people to help root out the narcotics problem nationwide.

Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Interior SUJARIT PAJCHIMNUN (สุจริต ปัจฉิมนันท์) spoke about working on comprehensive policy, involving practical and tactical collaboration among various agencies.

The fourth battle on drugs has kicked off from 1st October to 31st December 2005. Prime Minister THAKSIN insisted that provincial governors, officials and police should collaborate in weeding out narcotics in Thailand.

Mr Sujarit added that the Interior Ministry would examine the problem of fake citizenship identification cards. In the North in particular, he said, many drug suspects had obtained fake ID cards in a bid to avoid arrest.

The Permanent Secretary has warned that government officials responsible for issuing fake ID cards or smart cards will be severly punished.

Here is yet another statement that as written (translated?) defies comprehension. What is he trying to say, that a valid Thai ID card functions as some sort of "Get Out of Jail Free" card for legitimate holders?

I find always very narak-funny this obsession with "campaigns" along with very precise periods of time.

-open the airport on 28/09

-drugs free countrie for (pick up one) king birthday, mother day

-slums in 3 years

-corruption in 2 years, 5 months, 3 days and 11 hours

It's like they know the aims will never be achieved so they need to set "deadlines" to reinsure themself. Which is curious with the way Thais deal with "time scale". Anyway.

This government is a living theather, a perpetual "comedia del arte".

You know what ? Just for kidding, but more and more I believe the Thais are the italians of South east asia (sorry for our friends of Italy).

:o

How can Thaxin can be taken seriously on the international scene ? He's not a great (or good) leader.

He's just a "bouffon".

with the drug traders, you must use hammer and fist , that is , act decisively and without mercy.

police general phao sriyanon once said "there is nothing under the sun that the thai police cannot do"

so i'm confident that drugs are something that the thai police can deal with.

thaksin shinawatr.

speech 14/1/2003.

the popular northeasten monk , luang pho khun parisuttho , praised thaksin to his face

"its good you were born to become powerful and help the nation , if you did not exist , ya ba would never be got rid of for sure ......since the time of field marshal sarit thanarat , now its you who has appeared as someone important to save the nation at the right moment.....dont bother putting drug traders in jail.....the sin from killing a ya ba trader is the same as from killing one mosquito. nothing to be afraid of.

MR , 30/9/2003

these quotes taken from the book "thaksin , the business of politics in thailand "

by pasuk phongpaichit and chris baker.

an easy to read (for a book about politics) and informative book about the rise of thaksin and his family and some insights into the strange world of thai politics.

Duck for cover seems another killing spree will be coming!!! :D

It's already here and started:

Police yesterday closed an investigation into the suspicious group hanging of three drug suspects in custody at Muang Lamphun police station.

The officer also referred to a crime scene investigation report as saying that all three men – Palakawa Phattakam, 24, Boonchu Sujipat, 22, and Pajansuk Ornjong, 19 – could have hung themselves on their own – by climbing up and tying their shoestrings to the overhead bars of their detention cell.

-------------------

Yep... three simultaneous suicides, all by hanging, in their shared cell. Yep, nothing out of the ordinary or suspicious about that. :o

This reminds me of a farang that died about 10 years ago.  He was tied to a pier in Naklua with bullet holes and the Pattaya police investigated and proclaimed it to be an apparent suiside. :o

Are you implying that you suspect otherwise? :D
