At least 5 dead after Pakistani forces kill suicide bombers

2011-05-17 20:13:22 GMT+7 (ICT)

QUETTA, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- A group of suicide bombers targeting a check post in the southwestern region of Pakistan were shot and killed by security forces on Tuesday, officials said.

The group of five suicide bombers, believed to be foreigners of either Chechen or Uzbek origin, included three females and two males and were all killed near a check post in the Kharotabad area of Quetta, Pakistan, near the Afghan border, after security forces tried to detain them while approaching the post, the Express Tribune reported.

According to reports, the group of suicide bombers were equipped with explosive material and hand grenades. After showing their suicide vests, local authorities tried to detain them, but an exchange of fire between the bombers, unknown militants, and security personnel quickly broke out.

Although some reports indicate that one of the suicide bombers was able to detonate their explosives, Quetta police chief Daud Junejo told the media outlet that all five were shot and killed, avoiding any suicide attack, and any security official being injured.

Besides the death of the five suicide bombers, another three are feared dead and several others were wounded, but exact information remains unclear.
