Police have arrested a gunman, whose name figures in a list of 50 wanted, as part of efforts to quell political violence ahead of the July 3 election.

The suspect was identified as Udomsak Sena, who allegedly operates as a gunman in the upper South. His name is 10th on the wanted list of career gunmen, which is also being distributed as calendars. The campaign was launched after the shooting of Pheu Thai MP Pracha Prasobdee last week.

National Police chief Pol General Wichean Potephosree yesterday visited Pracha at a hospital and reportedly discussed confidential details about the mastermind behind the shooting during the 45minute talk. He later told reporters that Pracha gave useful details to police, and he repeated his statement that arrests of all suspects would be made soon.

Speaking afterwards from his wheelchair, Pracha said the shooting involved joint efforts by two groups of people - locals well known to residents in Samut Prakan, which is Pracha's political stronghold, and outsiders who worked for the same mastermind.

Pracha said his condition had much improved but he had to stay on for a while at Rama IX Hospital.

Good! The net tightens..

i am thinking the mastermind won't be Abhisit as some reds tried to intimate.............

Don't you find using the word mastermind is far to liberal with implied intelligence.

The article concerns the arrest a wanted hitman who maybe had nothing to do with the attempted assassination attempt on the politician.....so who wrote the headline ?

Indeed. There are no reports that this shooter was the one who tried to hit Pracha. The article merely states that this anti-hitman campaign was started because Pracha was shot, in a bid to avoid political violence.

I have been previously wrong to suggest that Thaivisa makes the headlines. A moderator corrected me on that - so I assume that this is The Nation's headline.

I think this may be my all time favorite Thaivisa statement. If only I had an Oscar to give you!!!!
