The Problem is if they totaly close down the sex dealing in this country , more than 50 prosent of the tourist will go other places , Probaly Philippines . And they know it.

That's a sickeningly cynical view on the issue. If they closed down the sex industry (they've made it a crime, so I'm not sure what else you expect them to do?), millions of children, millions of able-bodied in-laws, millions of Aunts with chronic debilitating illnesses...would all starve to death. The only reason it's illegal, is so they can control it. If they stupidly regulated it, they wouldn't be able to control it. We're not talking about Alprazolam here, lol.

They have to make it illegal, to save the lives of millions of children, able-bodied in-laws, and sick Aunts - who would otherwise all starve to death.

what they should do, is make it legal , like Germany .

With gambling ,set up goverment Casinos , so the goverment get the money, not high rank police officers around.

You're being very insulting now, and I apologise for calling you out on it. You're disrespecting the government, by implying they are pawns of ranking police officers. That's just ridiculous, because Thaksin didn't upgrade to his former position as a ranking Police officer, from Prime Minister. It was...the other way around? You're all mixed up, in laughably dyslexic fashion.

One day the world might get over this cute idea that the government takes orders from those they dictate to, but I wouldn't hold my breath. It will probably happen around about the same time that people get over the cute idea that government officials - in any nation - place the interests of state above their own. Is that what you do, in your employment? Sacrifice your interests, for the best interests of your employers?

If you were that silly, trust me - you will almost certainly never be an employer; but you'd make a dam_n fine employee. And if you are that silly, I am hiring.

This thread is becoming pretty weird.

And like a 19 syllable haiku, too long, pointless, and a monument to gross ignorance of form, experience, shape or reason.

Glad to see you back Scooter. Your voice and insights are a breath of fresh air on this forum :jap:

He abused the power to benefit himself ? YES. But he sucessfully spread the wealth to MAJORITY of Thais. That's more important.

I must of slept through that bit.

yeah this is the great misnomer ,people often say yeah but Thaksin helped the rural poor ,well I came here full time in April 04 and up till 2 years ago me and my Geordie mate Chris used to do over 225 kms a week (5x25 2x50) on our mountain bikes ,getting really off the "beaten tracks" the squalor and deprivation what we saw these people living in was truly beyond belief, old corrugated iron shacks with earth floors and no running water ,when the well ran dry many had to go long distances with their big ceramic pots to get diluted buffalo piss from the nearest lake or water hole,oh yeah seen what Thaksin did for the poor in very graphic detail,I also spoke to some who had lost loved ones during his WOD in 03 later on when accompanied with another friend who spoke good Thai . What nobody mentions (probably because you do not realize it) is that the Thai sex industry (run by rich Thais...for rich Thais) dwarfs the western sex industry. It's not even close. A drop in the bucket!

So before you get up on your high horse and drink the Thai xenophobic Koolaid pretending that westerners are the problem, get a clue. Oh and about this Thaskin thing. One of the ministers in his new puppet gov't is a big Thai brothel owner. So keep drinking that Koolaid lemmings.

I reckon he's 90% right.

The vast amount of nobodies who can come here and feel like somebody is proof that he is right.

A lttle bit of money becomes a lot here.

A lot of young women target westerners to get money and they trade sex for it.

The male ego won't let them see the truth, they need to believe they are sex gods.

Just have a look at the pathetic slobs in the bars with nice looking young women hanging off them.

Why the majority of Thai Visa forum posters are anti-Thanksin is a mystery, it's as if they know better than the Thais.

The attitude that they are wiser and more politically savvy than the Thai voters is extremely prevalent in these forums.

Every day I read cynical posts between contributors, always running down Thailand's institutions and professing to be so wise and knowledgable in Thai affairs.

The irony is no-one really cares what they think, they are the Walter Mittys of this world, deluding themselves.

The Thais had enough of the Democrats and gave them the boot.

Yingluck and PTP is their choice and I respect their decision.

I don't know if it escaped your attention, but the topic is about Thailand's Sexpat Community.

If you are trying to infer that TVF members are representative of a bunch of barstool, balloon chasing toastie munchers, I would suggest that you are way off target.

The true Sexpats probably couldn't give a rat's about Thaksin one way or the other ..... until it starts to have an effect on their lifestyle.

What a dick. My guess is that this virgin little blogger had aspirations of being a loose-living whore-riding fiction writer, however had his maunscripts regected by a Bangkok publisher and then couldn't cut the mustard as an English teacher. Went back to mummy in the West and wrote a snidey little article. Pussy. Real pussy. I have no idea why Thaksin is even mentioned in the article. The blogger obviously knows little about Thailand, Thai polictics, or anything Thai.

duh, I think you'll find the original thread was commenting about an article written about Thailand's sexpat community and why they hate Thaksin

Check back to the original story.

Your guess is wrong I'm afraid. As I posted earlier:

"Incidentally Dan is young, good looking, very well educated, and knowledgeable about Thailand - so frankly the personal abuse is a little absurd. But he is cheeky and his article should be taken with a pinch of salt"

I thought the article misconceived for reasons explained earlier not because there is an issue with teasing a few sexpats but because the caricature seemed off beam. There must be a grain of truth in a story like this, or it becomes somewhat pointless.

I resent the comment "A good place to find these shining examples of manhood is the Thai Visa Forum." I own a business,(not a bar) employe over 30 Thai's, live in Thailand with my wife (not a Thai) and three kids, I mix with other expats, none in the bar business and one 1 has a Thai wife, what sort of idiot can make that type of blanket assertion, gutter misinformed press!

Guess it's good for readership

Yes but with respect describing what you are and have puts you in a very small minority ??

Well thankyou Timestamp, you have proved my point perfectly.

It's my assertion that many expats have this inflated opinion of themselves (that they know what's best for Thailand) it does them no good at all and just makes the Thais resent them all the more.

If "back home" was so good, why are they here?

I reckon he's 90% right.

His premise is laughable. This fellow just wants to bash ThaiVisa.com and fellow Westerners that he feels are not as "hi-so" as he is.

A lot of expats loathe Thaksin, but very few are concerned about his crackdown on bars. "Crackdowns" happen all the time here and never amount to much.

Initially, I was somewhat sympathetic to Thaksin, but my complaint is with the protests last year that ruined so many businesses, hurt tourism and the economy, caused so much violence and the eventual refusal of the peace deal that the government offered - that and the fact that the redshirts burned down and destroyed so much property when they finally were forced to stop holding the financial district hostage.

Causing so much hatred among the populace in order to take back power will not be soon forgotten. Thaksin has a lot to answer for and the bars have little to do with it.

I can see why sexpats would take offense. I thought the opinion piece was right on the money
