Is Thailand Value for money
Although this does happen occassionally in Thailand, this is more a question of not knowing where to find the good deals and cheaper places to stay than people actually cheating or overcharging you. Also in my experience, overcharging happens a lot less in Thailand than in nearby countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and especially Laos, where it seems there is some guy selling tickets for every waterfall, hike and hotspring, and they like to throw you off the bus before the final station to force you to take an expensive tuktuk. Also, learning some basic Thai and saying sawadee krap, kop khun krap etc. does help a LOT. I make sure to always be polite and friendly and learned some basic Thai even before my first trip here. People will treat you fairly most of the time. -

Save The Children Urges Action on Child Road Deaths in Thailand
They're part of the problem. They would throw such a fit if they couldn't speed and drive dangerously. Seriously you can't help you these people unless they want to be helped. -

Is Thailand Value for money
Thailand is great value for the money--especially with what is usually your biggest ticket item--keeping a roof over your head. Whether you buy or rent, there is a huge variety of housing stock at all price points if you choose somewhere like Pattaya. I know--because in the 14 years I have been here with my Thai spouse, we have lived in everything from studio condos to our current 4-bedroom pool villa. Whatever your housing needs, it's likely available with numerous choices--we saw that firsthand as our housing needs changed as we got older. Could we afford a 4-bedroom with pool in America? Maybe in a stretch--but we'd be eaten alive by high property taxes, HOA fees, high costs to get someone to repair anything, higher utilities, and likely sky high insurance rates these days. Just a couple examples. We pay 40 baht a month for garbage pickup, twice a week. What's that cost these days in the US? The pool guy cleans and maintains our pool three times a week for 1500 baht a month, not counting supplies. What's a pool guy run for in the US? Of course, lots of other things are also cheaper, including health care and eating out at restaurants--which we love to do. Certainly there are other reasonably priced countries to choose from but we like being in Asia. -

Save The Children Urges Action on Child Road Deaths in Thailand
I always cringe so hard when I see some parents speeding on their motorbike with one or more little kids (probably no helmet too). I understand if you can't afford a car but you don't need to drive like a fool either. That's just being low IQ frankly. Road safety is beyond much of the Thai population. Most adults here drive like we did when we were 16, young dumb and full of cum. If you can't figure out what a safe speed when driving is and respect basic rules by the time you're old enough to have kids you're beyond help. -

Bank of Thailand Intervenes to Manage Baht's Exchange Rate
Maybe they meant to say "manipulations" ? I have compared the Baht (recently on Xe) with a "basket" of currencies, they have all weakened , not just the US Dollar. As someone remarked, MAYBE they are loading up on Dollars at 32 to unload later at Circa 36 to help pay for the 10K Vote Buying ? Who knows, TIT. -

Is there a Hughes pub in Chiang Mai?
No, @Flyguy330, it doesn't have to be faux-Irish. Can be any background. A good example (admittedly from 15-20 years ago) was Bie Otto in Bangkok on Sukhumwit 22. German pub, German beer, German food, German owner. And a real hoot to sit at the bar and listen to Thai students who came in speaking German. Not quite Huges, but still in the old style. With the large numbers of expats, seems to me should be someplace in Chiang Mai. -

Your Two Months Rental Deposit
I only once took a 1 month deposit when the agent told me they were good tenants and had been burned by a previous landlord. I asked them if they were tenants of a particular landlady as I knew those tenants were trouble. The agent lied to me and said they weren’t. I paid the landlord the entire first month’s rent as commission. At the end of the first month the tenants told me they could not afford to live there and were going to move out. It took them three weeks to move out. When they moved out, they hadn’t paid either of the electricity bills. Since leaving my property they have burned at least one residential landlord, a commercial landlord and a school for 2 children school fees of 800,000 THB. They are just not good people. A note to AirBnB landlords, ALWAYS fill in a tax return. Thailand will be receiving data on all historic rentals, just like happened last year in the UK. -

I Love Donald Trump
You call it woke, I call it facts. I am not the only one who is of the opinion that Trump is a despicable person. Trump himself said that he is greedy and he calls fat women 'pigs, dogs'. Trump lies come out of his mouth, those are facts, nothing to do with 'woke'. It is shocking that exposing Trump's lies and being a women abuser is interpreted by you as 'woke' instead as facts. -
