Not a problem, will be handled same as if your passport was to expire in six (6) months. In the six month case, which was mine a few years ago, my Non-O extension was to the validity of my passport, six months. Then when I got a new passport, Immigration extended the validity for another six months, through the normal end of my normal one-year extension. At no cost, I might add.

Do get a new passport on time. If you suddenly need to travel you could be in problems, as most countries require a validity of at least 6 months.
