Daily Deal Coupons

Featured Replies

I like using the various coupon sites, however I wonder about the quality of service from some of them. I sent the email below to Ensogo a week ago and again a couple of days ago, but I guess they are too busy to answer a reasonable question........

What do you think this means: - Price is Net (includes all service charge and VAT).

Dear Ensogo,

Could you please clarify what the following statement on my XXXXXXX Bar and Restaurant coupon means:

- Price is Net (includes all service charge and VAT).

I used the voucher today and they charged me Service and VAT on the total bill and insisted that that's what the above statement means.

I went there for lunch. The coupon value was 450 baht and they charged Service and Vat on that 450 Baht.

Thanks!

One could have a field days on the subject of cheap charlies in this thread....

But to answer your question, personally think the clause should read "excludes all services charges and VAT"......that would make sense....guess a case of not getting someone who has English native speakers looking at things before getting printed up...

I would lose any sleep over it.....

Ah I feel a Burley Shassey, song coming on.

Yes or 2 meals at my local restaurant. Or a bit more then 2 liter for my bike. Or ... or..

It al depends what is said on the site if the guy is right he has a right to feel cheated.

As net means 'part of the whole' I would assume that it doesn't include service and vat.

Time value of money Robb...you should know that. Better things in life to worry about?

Anyhow, when some thing says it is net of something, to me it usually means 'does not include'.

Translating Thai to Tinglish, then, what is the the parenthesis (taxes and charges) means that what is not included, includes taxes and charges...

if you get it.

But there, I've wasted more than 90 baht of my and your time... :)

Samran,

For me there is more then money. I live by principles. Might not be economical but that is just who i am. Being an accountant does not mean i only think of money. For me the net price means what you ultimately pay. But that could be Dutch / English translation problem. (seriously not sarcastically).

I would buy stuff more expensive somewhere else if i was cheated in some way in a shop. Im not logical at times.

As net means 'part of the whole' I would assume that it doesn't include service and vat.

Yes, that's what I thought but ask any Thai... "Net" includes VAT and service.

If it isn't "Net" then they write ++.

I have discussed this many times with Thais

Confused?

Not that it matters much...., but Ensogo informed me that the coupon is a voucher and since my total order from the menu exceeded the value of the voucher than I had to pay VAT and service in cash. If my order was less than the value of the voucher than it's covered by the voucher and I don't pay anything additional. That makes sense.

The Thai's do use net to mean including VAT and sevice. Go figure.
