Rather depends upon how long she's planning on staying. The UK doesn't actually publish its guidelines, but based upon other European state guidelines you should be OK with about GBP 100/day.

I doubt that any overdraft facility will be counted.

Absolutely right, the length of holiday is important the key, but also what will she be doing, will you touring and staying hotels or at your home?

Money is only a very small part of the application.

When your girl friend applies, and remember she applies not you, as 'aland2012' points out, the reasons for her to return are just as important as the finances, she needs to convince the ECO that she is likely to leave the UK and the end of her visit. work and study commitments are a good start.

You talk about money in the bank so I presume you are sponsoring, you need to convince the ECO that it's reasonable and affordable for you to do so.

Good luck

How long does your girlfriend plan on staying in the UK?

How long have you known your girlfriend?

How many times have you been to Thailand to see her?

Does your girlfriend have a job to return to in Thailand, or is she studying in Thailand?

Do you have suitable accomodation for her to stay in?

1 month holiday and job to go back to, must have a good employer who lets her go for a month. (this is the thinking of the ECO).

The UK doesn't actually publish its guidelines

The UK does publish guidance, but that guidance does not give a minimum figure because there is no minimum figure. The immigration rules (Para 41) simply say

(vi) will maintain and accommodate himself and any dependants adequately out of resources available to him without recourse to public funds or taking employment; or will, with any dependants, be maintained and accommodated adequately by relatives or friends; and

(vii) can meet the cost of the return or onward journey

No minimum figure is given because, as you rightly say, a lot depends on the purpose and length of the visit and what the visitor will be doing once in the UK. For example, touring and staying in hotels will require a lot more money than staying with a friend for the whole visit.

Foomanchu, you may find this topic and the links therein helpful.

(BTW, I've added a subtitle to this topic's title to make what you are asking clearer.)

Personally I think that any age difference between applicant and sponsor is none of the ECO's business. However, one of the things the ECO has to decide is whether the applicant is a genuine visitor with a genuine reason for visiting the UK. If there is a large age difference then the ECO may, in the absence of other factors, wonder if a young applicant is merely using their older sponsor to gain entry to the UK, with or without the sponsor's knowledge, and once in the UK will disappear. So, if there is a large age difference then one may need to provide more evidence to convince the ECO that the relationship is genuine.

Of course, every case is different and each application is judged on it's own merits, based upon the information provided by applicant and sponsor.

That's my thoughts on the matter, but I'd welcome others.
