A company will be applying for a work permit for me but found out that they can't do it on a non-imm O visa extended for retirement purposes, so I need to get a non-B visa (I guess that's the right type). My non-O retirement visa expires this month. Can I change to a non-B visa without having to leave the country? If I have to leave the country, should I apply for a non-B visa overseas? Does the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh issue non-imm visas? If not, where can I get one? Or can I leave and re-enter on a 30-day permission of stay and apply for a non-imm B visa? (It seems that the company wants me to get the visa overseas). If the work permit deal falls through, can I still use the new non-imm visa to re-apply for a retirement extension?

You can try to change your reason of stay from retirement to working at immigration. it is up to the officer to allow it or not and chances are high they will not allow it. But certianly if it is a wel known company or a government institution it is worth a try.

Apply for the work permit first. On your current extension of stay based on retirement the WP itself will not be issued. But you will get a WP3 form, this indicates that you will get a work permit once you have the right visa or permisison to stay. It is needed if you want to try the immirgation way and when you apply for a non-B visa in a neighbouring country.

If the job falls through with the entry on a non-B visa, your permisison to stay remains valid. Only an extension of stay would become invalid. In the last 30 days of your permisison to stay you could than just apply for an extension of stay based on retirement. (Same if you lose your job on an extension of stay).
