Indonesia's trade surplus declines third straight month

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesia's exports reached $16.52 billion and imports reached $14.89 in April, resulting in a surplus of $1.53 billion, the country's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) said Thursday.

Indonesia's numbers showed the country's ongoing downward trend in its trade surplus compared to the previous two months - March's $1.81 billion and February's $2.8 billion.

However, according to BPS' report, April's exports rose by 0.96 percent compared to March's $16.36 billion, which also represented an increase of 37.28 percent compared to April 2010.

Compared to 2010, industrial products exports during the January-April period rose by 34.94 percent, while agricultural and mining products rose 24.13 and 11.62 percent respectively, during the same period.

China was Indonesia's largest partner as exports totaled to $1.57 billion, followed by Japan with $1.46 billion and the U.S., $1.31 billion. Meanwhile, exports to the European Union's 27-country region, Indonesia's exports reached $1.69 billion.
