4000 Bht For Light Surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone !

My pet had a benign (meaning just under the skin) tumour that had to be removed.

The whole operation was to sedate him, cut 2cm of skin, remove the tumour, and sew it back.

It did not take an hour.

The vet charged me 3500 thb, + 500 thb to stitch him back - Because Surgery fee does NOT include sewing the skin back, so please pay 500 extra if you don't want your animal back with a hole in its flesh !

I am shocked because is the equivalent of the price I would have had paid for a specialist in Paris (100 euros).

How do you explain this? Vets here don't have anything near the tax, rent, staff salaries, they would pay in Paris, nor is my salary ...

Have I been ripped off ?

thank you

That is a disgusting piece of profiteering. The last time I took an animal for surgery (at the Small Animal Hospital in Chiangmai), they cut open a haematoma on the dog's ear, plastered it up, supplied the Elizabethan collar, and did the necessary aftercare (oh, and I forgot the anaesthetic), all for about 500 Baht.

Disappointing to hear of your experience.

If the facts are indeed as you state you were "ripped off"

Did you talk about costs before proceeding with the surgery. I would imagine that this was not an emergency situation so you certainly should have discussed this.

If you PM me clarifiyng that events presented by you are accurate I will pass you a contact in the Veterinary Assoc. involved with disciplinary issues. I don't want to waste their time so be sure your complaint is solid. It seems to be.

Is there any chance of resolution between yourself and the practice? This is best if possible. Unfortunately threats (ie. official complaints) to the surgery/practitioner must be delivered sensitively to allow saving of 'face'. Still best option if you can be Thai for a while in your negotiations(assuming you're farang). Remember a vet is reasonably HiSo.

Good luck.

where did u go. ? some Vet in bkk is known for "quite expensive " .

Can I quote vet name / clinics here ? it was in pracha chuen

Naming and shaming not allowed I'm sure. Think you gotta 'prove' guilt. Fair enough. Seems you got 'had' I reckon.

Similar but different experience for us last week by a vet hospital in Thonglor........complete ripoff nothing more.

Taking my daughter to Bkk Hospital for a sore throat is cheaper.

A local vet where we lived quoted 1000b for desexing a male cat and 1500 for a female.......male easier...snip snip.

Best to get a price beforehand.

I really don't think you would get all that for under 100 Euros in Paris, a relative of mine had something similar done to their cat in the UK (not London) and it cost nearly 500 pounds.
