Indonesian police arrest two more terror suspects over shooting

JAKARTA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesian police arrested two men believed to have been involved in a shooting last month of two police officers, the Jakarta Globe reported on Wednesday.

National Police said the two men were suspected of supplying ammunition in the deadly attack at a police post in Poso, Central Sulawesi. The police are still searching for three other more suspects.

"The two suspects, P and E, are the suppliers of the ammunition," said  National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar.

According to Boy, the police confiscated three self-made weapons from the two suspects, including a long-barreled weapon and ammunition.

On Saturday, police killed two terrorism suspects believed to have been involved in the May 25 attack. Second Brigs. Gustiar Yudistira and Andi Ibrar were gunned down by unidentified assailants on motorcycles, while a third officer, Second Brig. Dedi Edwar, was injured.

So far, the police have arrested five suspects.

Police are investigating possible ties between the suspects and Abu Tholut, a convicted terrorist believed to be part of the Al Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah and the hard-line Jamaah Anshorut Tauhid.

An officer with the National Police's elite counterterrorism unit, Densus 88, said two suspects in the shooting had confessed to working with Tholut when he visited the district of Poso in 2009.

Around 1,000 people were killed between 2001-02 in sectarian clashes between Muslims and Christians in Palu. Sporadic violence has continued to flare up in the area despite a truce in 2002.
