I was living in Thailand up to present on a retirement visa, married to a Thai and have the required money in bank

however I

am now in England and intend to return to Thailand early Sept, problem is my retirement visa axpires in August

can I renew my retirement visa if I obtain visa on arrival,or do I need an o visa from Thai Consulate first

which I assume would give me 90 days to renew my retirement visa

any advice appreciated

You must have a valid non immigrant visa entry so if you arrive on 30 day stamp you would have to change to non immigrant at Immigration with proof of meeting retirement criteria at extra cost of 2,000 baht (and perhaps having to do in Bangkok).

In Janaury 2011 at the Jomtien immigration office, I was able to get my first retirement visa for 3,700 baht and I came in on a 30 day stamp. I am a Canadian, if that makes any difference.

It should have been 2k (for non immigrant visa entry) plus 1.9k for one year extension of stay) so 3,900 baht. Are you sure about that 3,700 baht figure? It is actually a one year extension of stay rather than a visa.
