Pakistan's MQM walks out of National Assembly as target killings toll reaches 13

KARACHI, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- With the death toll of target killings in Karachi, Pakistan, reaching 13 in the past 24 hours alone, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) walked out from the National Assembly proceedings on Tuesday, local media reported.

MQM's Haider Abbas Rizvi described the city of Karachi as Pakistan's economic engine and the country's base for national growth in the National Assembly, the Express Tribune reported, as Rizvi expressed concern regarding the increasing terrorist violence.

Karachi residents have been staying indoors as target killings continue to spread in the city's Qasbah colony, Aligarh and Orangi Town. Rizvi underlined that if terrorist violence destabilizes the city, the rest of Pakistan would eventually destabilize as well.

On Monday, at least five people were killed in Orangi Town alone, where several others were also injured after Shafiq Ahmed Qureshi, 36, of the All Pakistan Muttahida Students Organization was murdered near his Aligarh Colony house.

The incident triggered further violence throughout Karachi. Police and rangers have been deployed to increase security measures.
