Not 100 % sure if this is the right forum. My Thai wife and I lived in the states for 38 years. When Thailand changed over to the 13 number system no one in her

family notified the Amphur and she was listed as dead. She has American citizenship. I came over on a retirement visa and they put her as a dependent of a

retirement visa . We worked with the Amphur and after lining up a line of witnesses and waiting a couple of months she got her Thai Citizenship back. My question

is does she have to keep her US Passport tagged with the yearly extensions or can she simply drop it since they will not obviously kick her out. I am mostly

concerned about leaving and re-entering the country. And when she gets a Thai passport can she leave with a US to go to the states and come back with a Thai

passport.

She needs to obtain Thai passport - leave on the American passport by air to somewhere and then return on Thai passport to get rid of the visa/extension of stay requirements and be here as a Thai. Not a big problem but often have to explain on entry when they do not have the arrival/departure card (Thai use in reverse order getting on exit) but if she gets someone demanding she enter on US passport ask for supervisor and they must let her enter as a Thai and most immigration officers do know this.

After the first time it will always be enter/exit Thailand using Thai passport and enter/exit US using US Passport. At departure show US passport to airline to prove no visa required and reverse in US if asked.
