Can any one please give me a definitive set of requirements for the conversion of a 60 day tourist visa into a Non Imm "O" with the ultimate objective of getting a retirement extension. I am single. Please do not suggest applying for a Non Imm "O" in my home country. For reasons which I shall not go into, that did not work out.

I am aware that I will have to salt the funds for 60 days before going again for the 12 month extension, and I'm OK with that.

In particular:

1. Is there a requirement for 21 days to remain on the tourist visa?

2. Is there a requirement for proof of funds (I'm going the 800K deposit route), and if so in what form. I sent the money into my Thai account via TT about a week ago.

3. Is there a need for proof of address. I do not have a blue book entry or a lease, and my utility bills are not in my name. Can my embassy provide a letter?

4. Any other "gotchas".

Thanks in advance.

1. No - but will have to convert to O visa for 2000 baht

2. Yes - 60 days in Thai Bank account or 65k baht per month supported by you Embassy

3. No

4. Probably - depends on immigration office you have to use

Thanks for the quick response.

Just to be clear, you're saying there is a 60 day salting requirement for the funds even to get a conversion from tourist to Non "O"?

If so that would mean applying for a tourist visa extension to be on the safe side.

Thanks again.

Proof of fund in account is required so account book and bank letter would be required - do not believe there is any requirement for the 60 days until the actual extension of stay so nothing lost in trying. For actual extension of stay believe some form of address may well be required. In most cases there are no gotchas and immigration very happy to provide.
