webfact
Health Department Warns of "Planking" Perils The Mental Health Department has advised parents to supervise their children when “planking”, warning that the fad could be dangerous. Director general of the Mental Health Department, Doctor Apichai Mongkol, has commented on “planking”, the latest fad in which participants lie face down with both hands touching the the side of their body in unusual or incongruous locations and then post the photos of their acts on the internet. He advised that parents should supervise their children because it could be dangerous doing planking. He added that children must be told to plank at only appropriate places so they would not cause trouble to others. Apichai believes that the craze will soon fade away, especially if it is frowned upon by the society. At any rate, planking is currently gaining popularity among famous Thai entertainers. -- Tan Network 2011-06-
Thai at Heart
Parents should supervise planking? It could be dangerous, so a parent should supervise? Who writes this idiocy?????? How about knowing where your kids are most of the time, and giving them a clip around the ear whenever they do something stupid. I think that is far more likely to have an effect. Maybe I should supervise them playing chicken with trains, or trying to play with the traffic. Edited June 16, 2011 by Thai at Heart

Furryman
Clean out the gene-pool. Chlorine for the gene pool indeed. First you have to be dumb enough to find this fad amusing, and then take the extra step into idiocy to 'join the fun'.

eddie61
I think the ministry of commerce should take note. Thailand has potential to become a south-east asian or even world planking "hub". The place is perfectly suited to this. Forget about banking, e-commerce and cars. Stick to bonking, planking and food! RickBradford
I think the Thai Mental Health Department is warning us that brain-damaged teenagers may start 'planking' in our vicinity, causing irritation and disturbance. As well as warning us, they should be rounding them up and taking them back to where they escaped from.

frenchcaptainbob
Dangerous ? I think it could be very positive for tourism in Thailand. I bet people would travel from far away to check how "exotic" Thailand can be. It certainly deserves a 5* ranking for how "imaginative" it can be. Would you just REPORT anywhere, nobody would believe it's for true...:jap:
OZEMADE
Isn't this good practice for an 'inactive post'? I have been watching them for years over here in Thailand. They are usually up on Skyscrapers planking on Bamboo Scaffolding. AAAaaaaa

What a stupid past time, I suppose the Australian youth can claim they've given something to the world but does the world really need it? Go to church, read a book or write one, surf internet porn or try wanking. In London "a Plank" means an idiot which can't be far wrong!
TechnikaIII
"Apichai believes that the craze will soon fade away, especially if it is frowned upon by the society." The craze will die a natural death, and sooner, especially if it is not given publicitiy.

newermonkey
I recommend that people who like planking do this activity in the following locations: on the motorway, on the train lines, on the roof during a thunder storm and under the sea when chained to a concrete block. I am sure the craze will "die out" quickly. Honestly what a bunch of plankers. or is that wanke_rs?
