Letter From School - About Sole Responsibility

Featured Replies

my girlfriend will ask for a letter from her children's school next week for our settlement visa. it will have our thai address on it, and it says the children go to the school, and for how long, and the mum and dad's name.

it is to help to show sole responsibilty. but will having the dad's name on it mean anything as far as showing sole responsibility is concerned. Should i include it in her application (if it has dad's name on)?

thanks

The clue is in the title. If the mother has 'sole-responsibility' I would suspect the Embassy would not be expecting the fathers name to be on school paperwork.

If the father is involved with making decisions the mother does not appear to have sole responsibility.

I am happy, as always to be corrected.

i agree with bob, i have just got visas for my 2 stepsons and we did include a letter from their school along with their exam results, attendance record etc but having the fathers name on as small as it may appear could certainly be a bad thing in my opinion?

i agree

my gf and her ex divorced in 2009. the father has had nothing / or very little to do with his children. since the divorce my girlfriend has made all decisions about schooling, and has clothed and fed them without any money from the father.

i thought it would it a good idea to get a letter showing the address that the school has on their records - which is mine and my girlfriend's address. but i agree, the letter will have the father's name on it - which makes the letter quite useless. the letter just shows who the father is - that is all. the letter is not addressed to him.

i do have school receipts which i will use, for 3 months of english lessons and 2011/12 yearly school receipts for insurance and books and school fee ( a nominal amount ) - but there are no address's on these.

i will ask my girlfriend about the exam and attendance records - that will be a good idea.

I am not sure what the school can provide, my gf seems a bit scared to go to the school and talk to the headmaster or teacher. in the uk i would be on the phone straight away, but things are different in thailand.

Receipts made out in your wife's name will be worth presenting especially if they cover a reasonable period. They only give receipts to people that pay a bill!!!

This will support sole-custody.
