Pujun
"I have a car and I invite you to join me to Samui. You pay for accomodation and food, I pay for travel expenses, OK?" "Yes, I agreed" Later, I found that he's actually on business trip to Samui and have to stop over few points on the way (not in Samui) to meet his clients. He company pay for petrol and he doesn't have to pay one cent. Hotel check-in! Although I pay for accomodation, he request to use his name for check-in and kept receipt for travel expenses claim. One day he left hotel for work in the morning. Suddenly he called me at noon for lunch. Huh? Just one lunch couldn't let it go? The day we left the hotel, I saw he took all toilet paper from the bathroom. Guess what? He is good educated with a degree, has a car and a house, has a decent job with pretty well income. How come Thai guys so cheap?? I met this kind of guys many times over last few years. This time I thought he's ok since he's a good educated person. "My German friend comes to Thailand every 3 months and when I 'invite' him for a trip to somewhere, he always take me to expansive fancy restaurants and stayed in 4 star hotels" "I have a friend from Japan. When I took him to a restaurant, he complained that the food there was too cheap... should take him to a 5 star hotels" "A friend from Beijing China come to Thailand at least twice a year, I took him to some special a-go-go bars to pick up boys. Then he enjoy watching me having sex with them. He so generous, pay 3000 baht to each of them" "Oh... I have American friend too...." Well, this one is still better than the previous one I met who has no car, no house, don't speak English well, but keep asking me to join him in Karaoke bar, then he order seafood and wine... what i have to do is to pay. I was just pointing out that it might be worth his while to consider whether the fact that multiple relationships that he has entered into have failed might be partly due to him as much as the other party. Self knowledge is a valuable commodity. Now - have you anything constructive to say about Pujun's predicament?
Pujun
Thai guys are cheap... we all known that. I seldom see Asians have relationship with Thais, In Singapore gay saunas, "shower boy" means those Thai boys work in sauna to sell their body. In Hong Kong, a single male Thai traveler to Hong Kong often get stopped by officers at the airport for additional questioning. "What is the purpose you come to Hong Kong?", "Where do you stay?" , "Friend's place? Your friend a man or a woman?", "You have money to cover your trip?", "Please come with us to that room for a quick search"... In Singapore, Mainland Chinese and Thai boys are to be avoided for anything other than sex. The fact is, among all Asians, Thai boys can be "bought" easily as long as you willing let them suck your blood everyday. No dignity, they will do anything for $$$. Asians from North Asia / Far East are down-to-earth. Use $$$ to buy LOVE is NO NO NO. It's a shame to tell people that "I have a Thai lover". It almost means that "I just use $$$ to buy a cheap love" I don't want a relationship with Thais but just friendship or sex. Do you know why? Because it's easy to spot out that they are just for $$$. That admit that too. Edited October 14, 2005 by Pujun
sbk
Amazing, I have never met a cheap Thai man. I don't believe they are notorious for it at all. In fact, it is usually the other way around, the men compete to pay since it shows a lack of standing and one loses face for others to pay for yourself. It is usual (and this is true in Chinese culture as well) that the older person will pay for the younger person, or the person of higher social standing pays for the one of lower. Seems to me you are meeting people who are using you for your money, not that all thai men are cheap.

Most Thai men are not stingy and if you are finding ones that expect you to pick up the tab for everything then clearly you are only meeting the sponges. They exist in every culture. But a decent Thai man (and I don't care if he is hetero or homosexual) will not behave in this way. For you to tar every Thai man with this brush is absolute hogwash. Ijustwannateach
Pujun... just a trend I pick up from your posts on several threads now... what do you have against Thai men, and why do you keep dating them (I think this is endure's point)? And just out of curiousity, what is YOUR nationality (from your English I assume you are not a native speaker)? I have never met a "cheap" Thai man who was in a position to pay for himself and/or me going out, especially if older than me. I've even had younger guys pay when I went out with them in a group as if to make the point they were not socialising with me for my money. Like in all countries, decent behavior is decent behavior- and if people hanging out with you are behaving badly, you are not meeting decent people. Maybe it's time to change your approach? Seems like your friend is one of these "tourist-loving" Thais- guys who are on the scene specifically for the cash-rich vacationers who consider Thai prices (at a farang salary) a cheap paradise. They get super-spoiled (consider your friends' stories). If a friend behaved the way you suggested, he'd be out the door from my life permanently as soon as I'd discovered it. And if he had the nerve to suggest that since his "German tourist friend" took him to 4-star restaurants that anyone he dates should do the same, I would reply that he should leave- now- and go find a German tourist. It's not admirable that a few people behave this way, but it's not characteristic of all (or even many) Thais and it's entirely your fault for letting someone keep taking advantage of you. noctiluca
Geez, at first I was going to offer my sympathy, but seeing the OP's attitude, I think he has a huge part in his predicament too. It must be easier to blame anything or anyone else than himself. I will say this politely on the behalf of decent Thais. You are highly encouraged to leave Thailand and never to set foot in this country again. I hope you succeed in having no more relationship with any Thai, sexual or otherwise, as you yourself stated. We don't need you either.

Ijustwannateach
Considering some of the tricks he's been up to here, I think his credibility is highly questionable. And whatever nationality he is, he's no native speaker of English.
