Love the KFC egg tarts, but at 25 baht a go,thought

bit pricey for the Thai market. Now they have put

the price down to 19 baht each, backed by a big

pricey TV advertising campaign.

Is'nt it suppose to work the other way around,

start at a low price.....

Back in the west 1$ is the price of a can of coke without tax...

Still ? way the dollar is going, you might find it's more like 2 dollars, with a guy waiting in the shadows for the empty.laugh.gif

Yes, but most of the posters are living in Thailand, and they couldn't care less what the price would be in US.

What you forget that when you go in a macshit place is that you spend more on a crappy meal than a Thai person gets paid in one day, It puts it in prospective does it not ,

No it doesn't. Most of us spend more than that on Western restaurant meals, no matter where we eat.

I was at the mall eating a fish sandwich at MacDonald's watching all the Thai people across the way eating Japanese food for 400 baht per customer. I guess that puts it in perspective for me. 6 Farang in Mac's and none in the Japanese place.

The Thai people go to Starbucks. I can't afford it I drink at the little coffee place on the street with the robusta.

I use my 800 baht nokia and 12 year old Thai school kids are sporting the newest Apple phone. I drive a 10 year old Toyota and the 21 year old chick living next door is driving a BMW. Do you want me to go on or are things in perspective now?

you chose to live in there country. the real Thai people who do not live in Sin city live in the real Thailand, and 300baht is about there pay for a day. Very few Thais can afford to eat in resturants. or mac shit or. bluber king,My mother Inlaw works in a Thai hospital and she cannot afford to eat In any of these places. I have never see any Thais in Starbuks in Sahmut Sahkon, Because they dont build them in the Thai provinces, just the tourist places, so your view is distorted.

you chose to live in there (sic) country.

Because I live in their country, I am obligated to not live at higher standard of living than the majority of the Thais? Why? I'd honestly like to know. (In fact, like Kerry, I am constantly faced with Thais who live far better than me -- which I certainly don't resent, just as I don't resent any immigrants in my native country who are more successful than I).

the real Thai people who do not live in Sin city live in the real Thailand

Do you honestly think like that? Urban poor, middle class or wealthy Thais are not real Thais?! Only poor rural Thais are authentically Thai? Or are the middle class and wealthy rural folks real Thais too?

I'm sorry that comment was just too simplistic and dumb for words. And actually quite twisted. I find it hard to believe you really mean it.

Very few Thais can afford to eat in resturants. or mac shit or. bluber king,

I question your idea of "very few". I also wonder why your apparent hatred of these places needs to be part of your argument.

My mother Inlaw works in a Thai hospital and she cannot afford to eat In any of these places.

There are millions of Thais who do not live the same lifestyle as your mother in law. And are you sure she can't afford it? Or is it rather that she would think it a waste of money and in fact has no desire to eat there?

I have never see any Thais in Starbuks in Sahmut Sahkon, Because they dont build them in the Thai provinces, just the tourist places

Heh. Yes, if they aren't there you won't see Thais in them. But Starbucks (and major fast food joints) serves far, far more than tourists so your reference to "Tourist places" is irrelevant (and BTW I pass a Starbucks every day on the edge of Thonburi, nearly in Samut Prakarn -- couldn't be less of a "tourist place".)

so your view is distorted.

Don't think I've used this rhetorical device since I was about 6 years old, but -- "no, yours is".

And I think a study of facts (eg socio-economic data concerning incomes/standadr of living, market distribution, locations of franchises etc) and a rational analysis --as opposed to your emotional rhetoric and first person anecdotal reference -- will bear that out.

EDITED for FORMAT and last sentence

Might as well use this space since I accidentally double posted (and can't sleep):

Starbucks is in Nongkhai, Korat, Krabi, Rayong, and KonKaen.

Any real Thais live there?

McDonald's are even more widespread, I believe.

I don't live in a tourist place I live in a Thai industrial city, Rayong and you can't tell me that Rayong is not a Thai city. What you are missing is when it comes to conspicuous consumption the Thais out conspicuous me and almost any other Farang 1000 to one.

I don't know where you live, but in Buriram there are a few KFC's, very few tourist, not enough expats to support a single outlet and they seem to be doing quite well..... How do you think they do it?

Egg tarts are actually Chinese, or rather from Hong Kong, to which the Portuguese brought them where they are called Dan Tan, which also mean 'idiot tart'

KFC is merely doing an overly fatty version of the real Mac Coy, which like most of KFC's recipes is just another way to sell you fat salt and sugar to make the people fatter and more unhealthy everyday. Thanks to KFC Burger King and Mc Donald, Thai are getting fatter everyday.

Go to China town and get the real deal !

Never heard that.

I know:

sha gua = foolish melon = idiot

Ben dan = stupid egg = idiot

Wang ba dan = turtle egg = a'hole

Egg alone though, never heard.

You live and learn.

I personally endured 2 years of China, and had been a great Dan tan fan, in UK then, in China...

This is my students who used to bring them to me in class who explained to me the "idiot tarts"

In london I used to go to a pastry shop in China town, but also discovered their Portuguese counterpart named Pastillas something much nicer cause they put vanilla, then in Taipei found the best pastry shop who made them.... all together 9 years of egg tarts addiction

Was so disappointed when I tried the KFC ones ... Not regretting one bit turning vegan
