YANGSHAN, NEW CITY

Yangshan is the new deep water port of Shanghai but not a new city. It is connected with the mainland via a bridge:

"Donghai Bridge is the longest cross-sea bridge in the world. It was completed on December 10, 2005. It has a total length of 32.5 kilometres (20.2 miles) and connects Shanghai and the offshore Yangshan deep-water port in China." Wikipedia.

You can find it (interesting!) on GE, south east of Shanghai.

Brisbane,

........to scratch bottom of bucket

Not Australia nor New Zealand or Oceania.

So: to sum up: Not the above + not Americas + not Africa + not Asia.

That leaves............... ?

Correct: Europe and, as an extra hint:

forget Ireland and the UK as well.

Not in one of the Mediterranean countries but it's in one of the EU countries and a Schengen country as well.

Now, I gave more than 1 hint, didn't I ? :o

Well, it looked like Easternish Europe when I first saw it and your second picture & Baltic confirmation sealed the deal, the other main cities in the area have much more compact & cuter old cities :o

Here's a very nice one:

Not Australia.

Hint(s): it is the capital city of a country in an area which most people would not associate with the level of development seen in the picture
